Download Xenu software which is free version. And try with it. It crawls all site URL and related files also

You can provide multiple Sitemap files, but each Sitemap file that you provide must have no more than 50,000 URLs and must be no larger than 10MB when uncompressed. These limits help to ensure that your web server does not get bogged down serving very large files.

f you want to list more than 50,000 URLs, you must create multiple Sitemap files. If you anticipate your Sitemap growing beyond 50,000 URLs or 10MB, you should consider creating multiple Sitemap files.

A Sitemap index file can list up to 1,000 Sitemaps.

Any capable sitemap generator (or WordPress plugin) will automatically split the sitemap into multiple files when you go beyond the 50.000 URLs per sitemap file.

no, you get it wrong, google doesnt read sitemaps with more than 1000 urls quickly.

Is this needed if your blog is hosted on blogger? I thought a sitemap is generated automatically with blogger?

The official limit is 50.000 URLs per XML sitemap file, just check http://sitemaps.org/protocol.php to check for yourself :) However, it is true that some prefer splitting before 50.000, e.g. so you have 10.000 URLs in each XML sitemap file. However, the hard limit by the search engines is 50.000 per sitemap file.

Well some say its 50,000 urls some say its 70,000... either way, end of the day, any number of URLs should be fine as long as the sitemap file doesnt exceed 100KB in size.

The official website for XML sitemaps protocol says the limit per XML sitemap file is 10MB / 50.000 URLs. It has always been that way ever since the beginning back in 2005. If you have more URLs, you need to split into multiple sitemap files. you can verify yourself at: http://sitemaps.org/protocol.php
