Yes, this is my experience too. I have also found that submitting to regional/local categories can often mean that your submission is looked at more quickly... but speed is all relative when it comes to DMOZ.

 

I have found submitting my site over 300 times to DMOZ is too many times. For three years it still is not there.

 

I`ve called that way because sometime I`m seeing on their shoes , actually I was on their shoes few months back before I got the lovely infractions ordered by we know who , because I said what I said . And I think it's one of only few words what can describe the situation . Easy like that , hardly to think anyone will got offended because of this word , even if at this moment will get a little angry they will realize soon I had right and will consider the word appropriate for the situation given . About speaking on the circles well ... since we are closed on the convergent circles with this particular subject it's inevitable I mean ... the problems witch was discuses before here had none effect no matter how much peoples try to have a str8 answer or a fix for them ... THE PROBLEMS exists and will be here forever since those circles witch convert each others and keep each of them alive ... you got the idea right ?

The biggest problem with the directory it's being full of spam , hundreds of spam links , someone added them here , and wasn't me since I got the automatically declined application within couple of minutes after I submitted , so other editors added them here ! You consider yourself an fair and decent editor and from your profile I saw you have access to edit on limited categories , I didn't even bothered to check or to browse your cats why ? honestly because I`m not interested at all about ausie region I think I saw your profile on other post and if I`m not wrong you have some cats on ausie region right ? ... well great thing and honestly I hope those cats are free of spam at all . BUT other categories from the directory aren't like that , I made public till now 2 urls on 2 different categories with spam links , links witch wasn't supposed to be here at all . When I asked questions or I made remarks about the spam I got infractions and a temporary ban on the forum ... reasons for the infractions everyone can see I`ve posted before a screenshot about them .... SO .. the circle is continue ...

SPAM ... that's the problem with the directory , and if the dudes who are able to clean the directory of the spam aren't capable to understand what means spam and what's SPAM ... best thing what we can do ( * we - others who have no power or nothing to do with the directory ) it's to have fun and stress a little , and to make some noise hopping somewhere on the far away future someone will hear what we have to say here . What do you think Gworld for example have nothing better to do and hes keep posting what he's posting since years ? , I have nothing to do better with my time and keep bulling same months ? Ivan also ? ...sorry for the other who I didn't mentioned , Yeah will come maybe Jim or Rob and will cut few words from this post and will give another '' machine like '' reply ... what will fix ? will ask for proofs about corruption from gworld ? nice take my two example of spam links witch I posted or ask me and I`ll give other 10-20 examples of similar spam links and will give them happy on public , that what will fix ? will be finally the directory clean of spam ? hardly to think ! ... on RZ forums are hundreds of other links reported like '' unappropriated '' what those peoples got from it ? NOTHING ! SPAM IT'S STILL HERE .

LOL...dont think you are the only one who gets infractions, i may say ive had what i consider a few "uncalled for" infractions. You can consider the DP Mods are being more than fair and certainly not for or against any one person

Everyone should realise that time is the issue. Time to find problems with links, time to fix problems with links, etc. I dont deny there are many areas that can use a good clean and tidy up, we do the best we can, its simply time.....that boils down to editors. If we had more editors it would be far easier, but we dont. We cant force people to edit in areas they dont want to and we cant force people to do X amount per month. Its a volunteer run organisation.....but one edit or 1000 edits, we appreciate the people (Editors) that do both.

Regards Spam, if there is a spammy link, dont just assume it was listed like that. Most the time the site has changed and evolved and turned into a spam site. Eventually it will be found and rectified, but again....time. We have a huge amount of sites to work on, visit and check....its all time.

Your lack of interest in Reg Australia is understandable, but be fair! To people in Oceania it is the MOST important part, as im sure the USA is to other people, or ASIA to others.

I just wish people would be more open minded, understand how much work is involved and what a great job that is done by many editors, that you do not see or hear about.

I can assure you with an attitude like this, postings that don't make sense and openly saying that you just want to wind up the editors, who will ever bother to read your posts?

As Snooks said most of the time the question is time, and we post on here to try and help people with genuine difficulties, sometimes that means we try and tell them the directory is not what they expect it to be. But trying to chase the rubbish posts of people who say they have nothing better to do with their time is not in my remit, I would prefer to spend a little more time editing.

But just to highlight something, why if you do not like DMOZ and have no time for it, do you bother, except that you have nothing better to do, no there is something deeper, you have either been refused as an editor, and with your posts I am not surprised, been accepted and booted or had a site that you desperately wanted listing and when it seemed to be rejected you decided the directory was rubbish, full of spam and you would try and attack it.

I also suspect that spam for you = not my site.

Most of the time when I`m come to DP and post here ... I`m doing it because I`m bored ... why I`m doing this ? for fun ! only . Yes I had one site witch I wanted to suggest , I`ve already forget about it trust me and I have no hopes never this url will be added on the directory , I don't even wish anymore any listing here ! Yeah you have right about the editorial thing ... actually was proven to me there is some automatically rejected sent out letters ... and like I`ve said few months back ... I`m pretty sure it's like this still and like that was before ! but all those issues was disused before so no reason to bring them back on the light .

 

Hmm, I recently resubmitted to a different category after 3 months of waiting, then 5 days later it is accepted to that category. However, the new category was more geo-targeted towards my services, allbeit a lot deeper into Dmoz's linking system.

I was just chasing PR back then... how silly of me

Trustnobody - I realize you think we're just being obtuse, but if murdering the language was a crime... you'd be shot.

I'll admit it's a clever ploy, it's hard to argue with something that makes no sense to begin with. It's like trying to follow Dennis Hopper's dialogue in Apocalypse Now.

I've ceased trying to explain anything to those just trolling, and there are active dmoz eds that can assist those with real questions. I do however get a kick outta coming in to see the huge steaming piles of conspiracy stuff you post... if only to keep my spirits up. You're hillarious.

 

Well if trolling a forum is your idea of fun I feel sorry for you. However it's not much fun for the people who come here with sincere questions to have to wade through your unintelligible posts hoping to find an answer to their question.

One time is already too much. Just a waste of time. And concerning the SEO aspect - I have sites listed there and sites that do very well without their doubtful "help". Can't see any difference in site ranking behavior, talking SEO wise, when I am working on better rankings between the Dkotz listed and the ones doing their way up the SERPs since more than 7 years.
