How many targeted keywords should we have in a site?

    I tend to start with 10 then once they are all on page 1 of Google, I look for others, rinse and repeat.

    Well, this is a generic question and I would say that it depends on total number of pages in your website. But for a page, I would not dare to advise you more than 3 keywords.

    For eg: My main keyword would be - text1 text2, where as my other keywords would be plural, different forms, then synonymns etc.,\

    Again credibility also comes into picture. Big websites can target many keywords for a web page. So if you start off, you can go for 3 keywords per page.
