    There's no such limit.

However, as long as your keywords are relevant to the site (and products/services you are targeting), it's O.K.

more keywords, the more difficulties to be experienced when trying to rank. so its better to stay right just about 4 to 5 keywords

It varies. not necessary you'll have to target few keywords. If you can optimize your all the keywords properly you you can have more than 5. But better to target few ones and rich your content with those keywords.

It depend upon your website pages and size but basically for normal website we can use 3-4 keywords its enough. if you desire to add more keywords in your website then you have to increase your website pages and size

I think 5-7 will be good. try to start from using 5 keywords and then increase depending upon how your site is faring.

I agree with this at all. I target 100+ keywords for a site and it works great to do many keywords in SEO rather just to stick on 1-2 keywords while doing link building. Also i get more success for the projects having 10+ keywords target rather otherwise..

Big sites target millions. Small sites target dozens or thousands if they have long content.

Thousands and millions...are you kidding me. Do you have any idea what you are saying if yes then show some example of such sites which are targetting millions or thousands of keywords.

I say, always research the related keywords and build a page making main keyword as a base. I mean to say, you need to target a keyword (having density less than 5%) and build seo optimized page...

I optimise 1 page for 1 keyword, and don't go for more than about 5 or 6. Best to select the best keywords that will really bring you traffic, rather than spreading yourself too thin and going for too many

As many as possible. I usually aim to rank for 20+ keywords for each site but that's because I know this will lead to thousands of long tails.

Using keyword for a site will depends on how many possible related and relevant keywords from your site and from your niche. You can have as many as you can, single keyword and even long tailed keywords. One tip for you is that you can separate your major keywords from your minor keywords so that you can set priorities when using it.
