If you have directories that manually review submissions (like all of mine do) how many submissions can you manage to add/review in a day? and how many are you currently doing?

    Thanks in adv....

It can take anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes per valid submission.

Then sometimes I find the site interesting and stay longer than I need to surfing around it which adds more time. There is one site I remember spending an hour on which I still go back to occassionally.

My hands are shot so editing all day is out but I used to do around 100 DMOZ style edits “total rewrites mostly” a day.

I try to edit/review/rewrite or add an average of 5 sites per day.

Around 8 hours but it's not really that good. Most professional editors can do much better.

Wow, I feel a lot better now. I'm generally doing 400+ per day and was wondering how everyone else managed... by not doing quite so many is the answer :p

I have plans to open 50 more directories this year and I'm not entirely sure how to manage them. STAFF might be the answer :)

You must be the super editor. I’ve trained hundreds of editors over the years and have never found one that could accurately edit and review that many sites a day and do a good job.

A few days ago I went through 397. I am getting damn good at hitting the DELETE button. If it is a spam/keyword stuffed title and/or description it doesn't even get a look. I don't give a care if it is PR 5,6 or higher rank it is bye, bye Charlie.

On the other hand when I see something which is a cut above it gets special treatment and even sometimes a free featured listing.

I visit every site that is submitted, generally I make a quick scan of the homepage to make sure it's what it says it is and then head straight for the Contact or About page to check for contact details and location. If there are no contact details then generally the site won't make it fullstop unless I really like the look of the site and it appears to a) be honest b) have some value, in which case I'll look it up on betterwhois or nominet to see where the owner is located to see if it ties in with the submission.

I do as much as I can in the time I have available...and do it all day every day in between building sites, as boy does it get boring sometimes..hence the post. I figure you don't know what others are doing unless you ask :)

I forgot to mention that I also use custom fields on most of my directories... where the field is standard ie: Contact Name, but the text says "where are you located"... when a listing comes through with John Smith instead of London I pretty much KNOW that it's an automated listing - which helps.

Yes , rather quantity one must go with the quality one or two bad links and description can hurt quality of your entire directory.
So, one should prefer to review all submission and then approve or reject it.

You are obviously a professional then, it's a shame you're editing skills aren't used on your signature link.

I have two directories and daily set aside 30 minutes for one and an hour and a half for the other. They normal see 3 and 10-20 approvals respectively.

Why would location matter so much ? I mean I never use a real address for most of my sites.. in the Abou/Contact US page.
