After the Bourbon update totaled my three sites I decided two things. 1: I don't count ony any site being ranked in Google. I build for MSN and Yahoo. So thus 2: I create MANY sites in all differen't areas so if one gets totaled in an update I have others that are fine. I'm currently out of channels on Adsense. It's alot to manage but seems to work for me.
It would be interesting to see how many sites people have, and what kind of earnings bracket they're in from the adsense, like a double poll or something :s
Having more sites will not necessarily earn more from adsense. There is a temptation to think by creating 50 sites earning $5 a day each you will be earning $250 a day, but my guess is that most of the big earners here have a few real quality sites that they could really focus on driving traffic to. However, there are a few people that apply the "more the better" and do earn substantial amounts. I think their sites are automated using scripts either they have developed or purchased.
However, more often than not you need to start a number of sites before you find the one niche that makes the most money for you. My CPM varies a lot between different sites, but I would never have known which site would have been the highest earning without trying it out. I think this is one of the main reasons that high earners tend to have lots of sites.
Nope; just get a host that allows unlimited domains (dreamhost). Of course if your host goes down, all your sites go down.
I tend to disagree. Jeremy has his 'coke theory', I have my own theory. Simple as it may be, the way you play Monopoly can reflect the way you 'play' the Adsense game. i.e. Buy up all the properties from the jump (i.e many Adesense sites) OR take a while and buy just the quality properties (Boardwalk, etc.) (i.e a few quality sites). The Monopoly theory, simple, yet effective.
na just go dedicated, you can get a dedicated server for under $100 now. It would handle all the sites and more. I have 8 sites, with 1 being very profitable and the others making almost nothing. The best thing about finishing 1 site is you can use that code or template with a new CSS file to make a completly new site. Also once you get beyond the 5 site mark, you do have to have some kind of content managment system either bought/free or created. I could not imagine having to hand update with HTML every time i had to add something. My wallpaper site takes 4 clicks to rescan a directory and add the new wallpapers i uploaded. Taking like 5 min. If I had to add all of them by hand it would be a full time job.
You mean one deidicated server can accommodate all your sites and domains with $100/month? what hosting company are you using?
