Am just curious, as have done a search and not seen this covered. On Google Webmaster tools when submitting your sitemap, does google penalise you for submitting more than one sitemap? What I mean is, is it ok to submit in the submit sitemap section. 1. sitemap.xml 2. urllist.txt 3. rss.xml a xml sitemap, the urllist.txt (for yahoo), and a RSS feed. Or is it wise to just stick to the one sitemap.xml submission? Thanks.
why would you submit a urllist.txt to google? use the rss feed url as the sitemap. just have one xml sitemap (split into 2 or more if the size is to big).
Since I use the Drupal CMS for my site, I get the cool advantage of having my sitemap auto-generated. The "XML Sitemap" module builds your sitemap automatically without you doing a thing. You can select what types of content to insert into he sitemap. As soon as a new page is created, it is automatically inserted into the sitemap. Plus, the sitemap can be auto-submitted to 4 search engines using the built-in api. How does that sound for automation?
Better to just submit only one cause google will crawl the site from it no need to submit more than 1 for same site.
