So I was wondering what you guys think. As you are doing research for a keyword to target for an affiliate product through article marketing; How many searches do you want to see per day or month before you think it's worth targeting? Specificly longtail keywords
I have a site which only get ~500 exact search for it's main phrase (there is no other competition), but it generates ~$300 / month in sales. The number of searches or competition isn't important. What is important is when you balance out the competition, number of searches, how much effort (time) it would take to rank #1, and what you estimate the profit to be, is it worth your time at the end of the day. If you value you time at $100 / hour vs $20 / hour, you are going to be much more selective with which keywords you target. No one can give you you a number of searches / month that will be worth your time. You need to use the known variables and estimate your unknowns to see what is worth your own individual efforts.
Agree with Stephe. Its searches X CPC that is important. Id rather get 500 searches for a $5 keyword than 5000 for 0.15$
