how many search results should i go up against?

    Hi

    so ive found some key phrases for my site and im now searching in google for the exact phrases to see how much competition there is to select my key phrases for some article writing

    as a rule of thumb what is the maximum amount of search results i should go up against

    my website is PR 3 if that make any difference

    Even i am looking for the same answer. I think better to hit those where you dont find big players a lot. I mean if you will search for iPhone then competition will be hard but if you will target lighter camera, u can get it easily. ;)

    I gave u a hint also for an article. :)

    i was told to try and go for key phrases with under 15,000 search results.

    am i on the right track?

    when one goes for the keywords which have searches less than 15,000 its quite good to rank but also it will require to have some quality work for rank in the competition of 15,000/- exact search result. thanx

    it all depends on the keyword you are trying to rank for the less competition the easier it is to rank that is true. Also longer tail keywords tend to rank better since there is less competition I can rank for keywords with 20million or less with out to much trouble actually just depends on the other sites and how hard they are working to hold page 1 most of the time it isnt to hard to get to page one.

    If you are starting out and want to see good results i would say 10 or 5million and less results then when you see results you will be motivated to go for the bigger ones. Remember that you will need to gain backlinks from different sites before you will see movement
