well it's not so much for giving out advice. you get asked questions over the years, and you hear them time and time again, so you get to know what questions are the ones that are important to the person and what they might be trying to ask. So i offer my IM as a contact point 24/7 if i am not sleeping or shopping i should reply soon. then it's just talking and gain confidence to find out whats going on at home. then i look up the details for social services in their area and offer to arrange a meeting, but it takes a lot of time, and not all will respond to it. 14 have, and all 14 are safe now. i get a Christmas card off 8 of them each year.
