Was reading about stumbleupon.com yesterday and I don't totaly get it. I'm sure alot of you use it. Just wanting to know how much it has helped them, and if anyone can explain it better than the stumbleupon web site. Also do I have to download the toolbar for it? Will it bring alot of traffic. My site is e-commerce selling boating supplies. Thanks everyone.
Stumbleupon does not really work too well with e-commerce sites. Just play around with it to get a feel for it. This month, Stumbleupon is our largest traffic source and also, traffic from Stumbleupon has the lowest bounce rate. Over 50% less than our site average. THAT is impressive.
I had the same problem of not getting how StumbleUpon works: When you click the Stumble button on the StumbleUpon toolbar, it chooses a webpage from its repository of all webpages stumbled (clicked the 'I like it!' button on the toolbar) and displays it in the user's web-page. The algorithm of which website is displayed is based on a number of factors including how many people stumbled it and your interests. So, a page can get a lot of impressions, if someone stumbled it and it received a few followup stumbles. That is the reason why Stumble traffic comes in waves. I received almost 700 stumble hits for the first link below & about 200 for the 2nd link but a lot of the other pages in my website has not received any hits whatsoever - can't figure out the reason... http://www.onefamilysblog.com/2007/08/teach-your-kids-piano-with-learn-piano.html http://www.onefamilysblog.com/2007/09/gps-review-garmin-c-series-c310-c320.html Please Stumble these - thanks! Like OneFamilysBlog said, it's about getting people to stumble what you have already written. But, I think it also has something to do with how many times YOU stumble something. If you are giving, you are bound to receive as well. So, if you take the time out of your day to "I Like it!" click a few different sites, you may also see an increase in traffic if you get clicked as well on your stuff. My friend wrote a short piece about it, so if you want, you can read it here.
Great point about stumbling other pages that interests you! Regards, One Family's Blog http://OneFamilysBlog.com
I think stumbleupon helps out quite abit. That is one of the most used bookmarking srvices that people use on my site. So i would say yeh it helps...
I have used stumbleupon for my ecommerce website, it worked as far as traffic goes, but I don't believe any of the traffic was converted to a sale. I recieve my sales from more targetted traffic. If you need some suggestions, PM me your site and we can talk there.
I actually found out about stumbleupon from my traffic stats. Somebody stumbled an article of mine and it sent a boat load of traffic. The traffic is sporadic and seems to be very untargeted. I have had some conversions, but they're not as good as targeted traffic. Regards, Shannon Herod
