    Hi,
How many people here own or have owned Vbulletin at one time for another?

I for one love it! :)

    Thanks!

One thing about upgrading to 3.0.3, it doesn't work with *any* version of MySQL 4.1 due to MySQL bugs. I was running 4.1.0 with vBulletin 3.0.1 without any problems. 3.0.2 (and 3.0.3) add a new table that uses a column named hash which in 4.1.0 was accidentally a reserved word, so the upgrade failed. I upgraded to MySQL 4.1.3 to fix that problem, but now there is a new bug that causes the viewthread.php pages to fail.

I hacked mine with a workaround I did, but ultimately it's a MySQL bug... just a word of warning for anyone upgrading and using 4.1.x

we use vbulletin 2.x. we might upgrade at some point, but I'm not really sure yet.

it's a pretty nice forum, I think. we have around 3,000 non-prunned users (over 20,000 registrations total but some users were prunned for not posting) and around 12,000 threads :)

I just switched from Ikonboard to phpBB.

I couldn't figure out what justified the cost of vBulletin.

Nothing really except for the overall cleaner code, mods, and support options.

Yeh I looked at both of the ones Will.Spencer mentioned but I thought that the extra mods available will hopefull encourage people to keep coming back...although getting peeps registered first is the tricky thing...

    Slowly but surely!

I forgot to mention the mods that I use just in case you were interested...

file list - Simply displays the attachments that people have uploaded so that others can download them

vbookie - betting system allowing people to make pretend bets using the points they accumulate through participation

v3arcade - Lets my members play flash games

I use vB. My Web host software has automated phpbb installation but I post on so many vB forums that I decided to go with the forum software I enjoy most.

I've got the free version of toast forums.

I'm swapping to phpbb though as toast started serving google ads in the forum without asking me and the ad free version is too expensive.

PS - if you are ever selling forum software never add ads without asking... gee that pissed me off.
