How many outbound links should I have on one page?

I have a resource page where I will be listing sites that I find helpful to my visitors. How many links on the page is too much? If I get reciprocal links, then does that affect just my resource page or the whole sites page rank?

Google recommends that you keep the number of links on a page below 100. I try to keep it under 50, but thats for my sitemap and not intended for visitors. Try to put yourself in the visitors shoes to answer this question...how many links would you want to see on a page if you're looking for a useful resource?

I agree with the first 2 post, the less links you have the better. For me I do not like to go over 20 maybe 25 at the most, it provides more value and makes the site look alot cleaner.

The less the better indeed works for my sites, and is it possible that we get a good page rank if we link to other sites though with a high pr?

linking from your site to high PR websites doesn't help, only reciprocal and one way links build your PR & link popularity.

if you have a reciprocal link it will depend on where the sites link to. If they link to your resource page and your resource page links to your homepage, your homepage will get a portion of the PR, or so I've read..

IMO 50 will be enough...less will be great...one way links are better rather than reciprocal links...and exchange links only with relevant, quality, and trusted sites...

Quoted for emphasis - so true. Keep within the guidelines, but don't always think about search engines before your users. They are the ones who return to your site, talk about it and (naturally) link to it.

On all my sites, I try to keep lexternal links per page down to less than 25. I don't even consider the number of links to other pages on the same domain in the count - I just try and keep it reasonable.

Now the logic behind keeping the total OBL count small is that when you are selling links at various places such as TLA or TLB you can get a better price for less (total) OBL on your site. So, if people are willing to pay more, then I always try and keep the count low.
