Assuming you're an average american (i know there are other nationalities here, but they're stereotyped to be fat), would you be willing to visit a website that tells you how to lose weight? better yet, how many people do you know that would like to visit a website about that? all comments are welcomed.
Theres already thousands of sites about weight loss and how to lose weight. Its a big market but im sure another site wouldnt hurt
Hi, I am trying to make business on weight loss too. I must say as somebody say above it is a very big market, and it is so difficult to earn some money on it.
I would be interested in a health site, not sure if weight loss is what I would be looking for though.
There is a lot of money in this business, which also make it a whole lot harder to get into. There are huge companies and tens of thousands of websites. You can try getting into it but it's going to be an uphill battle and I don't even want to start getting into a reasonable position in the serps
I am an Indian and skinny though so i would be more interested in Weight gain site.. that can do well too thanx
Im a woman and to me all weight loss sites are the same, besides everyone looking at those sites want some quick weight loss.... and they already know what it really takes to loose weight. If its just an information site that may be ok but if you are trying to sell something good luck. just my opinion
Yeah, I think if you want to make something like that work, you really need to be something different. I've actually got one in the works myself. But I won't be launching until the free tools are decided on and programmed, and articles are written from healthcare professionals or fully researched. If they're not, they're basically useless and more of a liability than anything else. What it looks like you have now are just a handful of general articles... really no reason for anyone to come back. If you want to make your site stand out, here's what I personally believe you would need to do in this niche: 1. First build up the articles available... and make them unique and preferably from someone like a doctor, nutritionist, or personal trainer who's actually qualified to discuss health issues, or at least have articles that heavily reference and cite reliable sources. Without a ton of content, you can't compete in this niche. 2. Don't think only about weight loss, but generally health habits revolving around eating well, and exercise (you can discuss supplements, herbs, recipes, exercise videos and equipment, and a lot more). 3. Avoid mentioning any "lost 10 lbs in a week" crap. It's all a scam, and people are well aware of it. They only want quality information. 4. People interested in weight loss are generally interested in things like community support. Offer a blog or a forum or both. Invite readers to share their stories and ask questions. 5. I don't think you'll find a single really successful weight loss site that doesn't have loads of tools and calculators. Make them free, and they'll be a nice reason for people to come back (like calorie counters for activities, nutrition info for foods, telling people their bmi, bmr, healthy weight ranges, etc.). 6. Offer free printable worksheets for people to plan their workouts, keep a food diary, and track their progress. EDIT: Oh yeah... and change your font color for the text. The blue becomes blinding, and doesn't look right having your text and links all the same color. Just my $.02. Jenn
I wanted to start a weight loss site too, now i have some question who would you listen? A doctor, personal trainer, gym rat or a fat guy who is trying to loss weight Do it as personal or professiona?l - make it like a diet diary or a profession article site Diet or exercise? Which one are you interested? and what kind of tool are you interested? BMI calculator? calorie counter?
A diet diary site would be fine if the person actually made significant progress and did it in a healthy way to share that (not with drugs, etc.). It would be even better if you opened it up and offered free journals to people like a community format. Like LJ just for weight loss. Could be very viable. But I think if you want a larger site in the long run, even if you start out with the personal angle, people will only really keep coming back if you offer a lot of tools, tips, and advice. And I don't think you necessarily have to have every article from a professional. But you also have to give more than Web-researched articles to make any site really set itself apart. If you can find a professional who would associate their name with your site, all the better. And it can be more than one. Personally, I care more about what a doctor says about vitamins, supplements, general cardio etc., more about what a nutritionist says about general eating, and more what a personal trainer says about things like weight training (heck, I like my doctor and all, but I guarentee she never lifted a weight). As for tools... why not all? You can already find them all online. But it would be great to find them all in one place, easy to access, and maybe with a few completely unique things too.. like customized printable materials (since it would be hard to come up with interactive tools not already out there). I guess my feeling is that if you don't plan to honestly try to make your site the best it can be (and it doesn't have to be in the start, but you have to be committed to getting it there, even if slowly), then why do it at all? Give people as much as possible, and you automatically become a "darling" in their eyes. Jenn
