    I am not in India. How different are Hindi, Gujarai, Tamil? Are they completely different, or can they be understood by each other?
    How many of you understand Sanskrit and how different is it from your modern languages?

    Naa.. naaa...

    Tamil is a south Indian language. The script is totally different from Gujarati and Hindi.

    Not sure about Gujarathi.

    But, I can say Hindi and Tamil are totally out of phase. If you know Hindi and can understand Hindi, you may understand languages like Marathi, Rajasthani, Bengali etc.. to an extent.

    Hindi, marathi and Rajasthani are all of the Devanagiri script.

    Like French, English , Spanish all the same character set ( similar) - A , B , C.... Z

    Tamil and Malayalam are almost similar... You can manage.

    well people speaking Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada can understand Tamil a little bit....

    And i speak Tamil, I'm from Chennai....:cool::)
