I agree.. MSN and Yahoo are so much clearer and easy to understand and rank for. I'm seeing many terms in top three on yahoo and not even in the first 200 on Google.. ohh well...

The problem is that google is still the dominant way for people to get to your site from a search engine.

You can't just ignore the single best way to gain new customers/visitors/traffic.

If you're referring to the sites linked to in your sig, I'm not sure why it would be a good thing for google to rank those sites at all! Two are parked domains, one has other sites in a frameset (presumably trying to get clicks of people searching for their domain) and the other one is about parked domains... and you're complaining about other crap sites beating you?? No wonder if you ask me.

Unless of course there's a useful site that you manage as well - in which case, maybe putting it in your sig might help its rankings.. ;)

This is exactly my point! Look at all the ways webmasters are trying to get 1st page rankings at Google WITHOUT having quality content on their pages. I think Google really screwed up by not anticipating this very thing happening.

Too much money is at stake for website owners NOT to try and figure out how Google ranks pages. Since a large portion of ranking there has to do with number and quality of IBL's, I think Google is shooting itself in the foot. It's way too easy to manipulate, and that's precisely what we're seeing more and more of. Google proclaims that their goal is to provide the most relevant, useful pages in the SERPs. Well, guess what Google? When you place so much emphasis on linking, it's inevitable that you end up with sites showing up on the 1st page of results that look like a 10 year-old made them.

There's a reason Yahoo and MSN are gaining on Google's dominant position. I hope they wake up over at Googleplex...SOON!

I rank #6 on Google for one of my sites, and about #20 on Y! for the same keyword. It bugs the heck out of me. :\

I'm always ranked better on Yahoo than Google, no matter the keywords I use.

But Google gives me 80% of the SE traffic...

For me, Ya + MSN produces approximately the same amount of traffic as Google.

lately I have been #1 in Yahoo and MSN, and roughly #15 Google.
google is a tough nut to crack, so I figure some more content and links, and I should do better.

Our sites are now getting more traffic from Yahoo & not really listed in google too well.
Since we just started the COOP the changes in Yahoo are apparent already maybe it will take some time for it to show in google.

From what I understood, if you are doing alright in Yah and MSN (old) you prob already have enough content, although adding and updating won't do you bad, it appears to be the BL that you need.

    Same for me, BTW. :)

I think that's it. I'm not doing too bad in yahoo, but msn old wasn't very good to me. The new MSN is actually treating my site really well. I'm even in the top 3 or 4 pages on some of my keywords. Google, on the other hand, refuses to index more than one or two of my pages, and only has one bl, and it doesn't even exist any more. If I do a google search on my anchor text I get back over 100 hits, and I know that at least half of them are links. I can't wait for the next bl update, but if they don't index my pages it's not going to do much good. I was thrilled to see how well I was doing on msn beta, but I haven't gotten single hit from them yet so I have to wonder about what's going on over there, and who, if anyone, is using it.

    nfzgrld,
Do you have many BLs for performing so well in MSN new?
Just to confirm what has already been pointed out.

    Thanks!

Same here, I rank higher in Yahoo than Google. I've yet to hear someone who has lesser rankings in Yahoo than Google.

    Strange.

I've only optermized my site for Google but I rank nearly just as good in Yahoo.
Although at the moment I've all but slipped out of Google due to indenticle content on more than 1 domain, at least I think that is the problem.
In December my site was #1 or there abouts for dozens of keywords.
