When considering leaving your job and how much $$ you need to live, someone mentioned health insurance which is a must for families, but it is also important to get 10% to 20% of your pay into a roth IRA or something similar. It isn't fun but you'll be very glad you did some day. The earlier you start, the better.

Play with the numbers in this calculator. Make your early savings work for you later on.

I currently make more from Adsense than I do at my job. I would like to leave my day job but having two incomes is nice :)

I am going to get my CCNP certification, but spend enough time online still to be considered two full time jobs. I am still learning, but hopefully after the first of the year, when I am commiting my time to this, it will pay off. I'm only twenty, so what I do make is nice. But for me to be satisfied, I have to take it to the next level. We'll see.

My day job has turned into a nightmare of unpaid overtime and correcting other people's sloppy work, so I'm looking to do this full-time as soon as possible. I think it may be good for me that I don't like my career because I've been much more motivated lately. I've finally managed to sit my lazy butt down and get some real work done, so hopefully it'll be about a year before I can add my name to the list of early "retirees".

BTW - Only making about $1-2/day so far, but it's been increasing despite having no time at all to work on my sites.

Just follow the 'earn double your current salary with adsense' rule and then you're pretty safe. Diversify your income between the different methods and make sure you don't become dependant on any one of them (i.e. build up debt etc with adsense as security). My Adsense only about pays my hosting bill, but it's great, I'm still addicted...
