My friend Erik says that "Jobs are for people who can't work". That saying has really motivated me to work harder, and start my own business. Large groups of people working together can be incredibly inefficient. I see exactly what he means in the context of my current day job (which I will hopefully be quitting in the very near future). So many people are terrible workers, especially management.
Be careful with that. A month probably won't hurt long term, but still. I was doing the same thing for a while, and it can catch up to your body. You cannot burn the candle at both ends for too long. Sleep is when the body releases crucial hormones (like insulin). It's also when your immune system is most active. Researchers have done sleep deprivation studies on chimpanzees. Eventually they will die of massive bacterial infections in the bloodstream, caused by a compromised immune system. Without 6-8 hrs of normal sleep, your white blood cells and natural killer cells aren't nearly as effective. Sorry for the off-topic rant, but I bet lots of people working 2 jobs don't get nearly enough sleep.
Hey man, I hear ya, as do a great many of us. But the reality is many of us do not have time for sleep! Personally I don't think I could sleep 8 hours on a regular basis. I feel like crap if I sleep too long. 6 hours is ok, but anything more than that and I am a wreck all day.
Actually it's not. The older people have had a lot more time to gain knowledge, tricks and trades. The playing field is not level for someone who's been able to work on the internet since it BEGAN and someone who's 17 and just starting...
I don't have a day job right now (in school), but I will definitely get one. The Internet is a fine way to make money, but there's a lot of stuff I'm more passionate about doing in the real world.
Yes, I like windsurfing, And it is a hell great feeling at the sea, while you know that adsense continue to work !
Isn't that called recreation? What's wrong with earning a hefty sum online doing something you like AND have the time for recreation whenever you feel like it.
I left my day job in December 2003. I still have one part-time job as a balroom dance instructor. It gets me away from the computer. I also don't "need" that job. I just really enjoy it.
That's it. The primary advantage of having enough money coming in from diverse sources is that you can take recreation time when every you want. Personally, I've spent many years working to make other people richer. Now it's my turn. I intend to do what it takes over the next 12->18months and work hard for myself to ensure that I can be lazy in style in the future. I'm more than willing to work hard now so that in the future I don't have to and the advantage is that if I build my sites correctly they'll continue earning well into the future.
Hey, that's great if it works for you ^ Some of the stuff I'm interested in doing offline can't be done on a part time or "when you feel like it" basis.
Swordfish 130 bucks is a lot for health insurance. I found a company called United American that was willing to drop to about 60 bucks. The Insurance agent came over and talked to me about it. They have a 50k, 75k, and 100k health program. My sites are not at the point yet where I can take on another "bill" so I'm going to wait a few months. Luckily I'm healthy and don't get sick that much.
Okay. So I burned out on Microsoft after 11 years. Did nothing for about 2 years. After 1 year of learning, I am making about $.02 per hour, all now from online ads. (okay, that amount per hour is a joke) So yeah, I have quit my day job, but the best thing is that I feel the same "passion" about this new job, just as I did at microsoft. The good thing is I can dream again.
