Yeah going to Uni in the UK left me £20k in debt, but i have a masters, and to be honest i wouldnt be in so much debt if i had drunk less and worked more. I dont think Uni is as great as some people make out, it depends on what you are doing really. If you want a job in computing and can blag a low position when you finish school or college you probably work your way up and find the work experience to be more valuable than the education.
That is true, you don't have any guarrantees when going to study. IT is a tech field. If you have savvy for this kind of thing there's no better way to learn than real world experience. There are just some risks involved which I wanted you to be aware of. You're right, you're still young. Why not take a year off and try your luck? That'll clear your mind on where you want your future to go and you might make a buck or two. I find it addictive though. It's like you feel the jackpot is just around the corner, so you keep on pushing. You need experience to make this work too... ;-) Bit of a catch 22. Seems though that you've had some success so far, else you wouldn't have considered it.
He did, yes. On the other hand, not going to college doesn't work for the average guy. The majority of people who don't have college degrees make less than the majority of people who do have college degrees. Individuals may vary, of course.
I got a degree in computer science, and I'm glad I did. Part of my Visa to work in the US a few years back balanced on my having a degree. But I think either route is great, as long and people aren't sitting on their arses mulling the options and doing nothing. If I was pre-uni and had a suite of websites earning me money, that's what I would have stuck with. Going to university wasn't so much a choice for me, more a "what do I do next without having to enter the real world"
yeah i agree with black bug. Aslong as you are doing something positive with your life and trying to better yourself for the future whether thats gaining experience in a job and working your way up or getting your degree then you will do fine. My main reason to go to uni was it was just expected of me, my father was a doctor so dropping out after college wasnt really a done thing, and i had no real plans when i was 18, i just knew i was good at computers.
Such an idea won't work anymore. To make it work you'll need an enormous amount of media attention from lots of big websites, blogs, newspapers, radio stations and TV shows. They already know about the original one so chances are slim they will spend time to present a ripoff. Secondly, you also need to spend lots of money to get the ball rolling. Many people don't know this but the guy from milliondollarhomepage.com invested thousands of dollars on a PR release and a PR agent to promote his website.
I think i read he spent 6k-9k to get the initial advertising.. so it is true,,, Takes money to make money!
I make double of Adsense then what I make at my regular job but my job right now is very easy and i learn new things everyday. I'm a web assistant for a huge computer software company so just seeing how the site works and the back end of it will help me in the future.
A true businessman can turn anything into an opportunity. So if you are thinking about dropping out of college, you probably just are not smart enough to figure anything out. Here are a few ideas for you guys... Turn class notes into a wiki or blog. BAM a couple bucks a day per class, why not right? Then if you are studying in a business school, forget about tests and such.. I don't even consider the exams when I am reading the material. Just apply what it is talking about to your business and you will learn FAR more. I recommend advanced level economics, finance, and marketing courses to put everything in perspective. Heck, take some real estate courses and get a good understanding of that so you can put your money you make online into something else to grow. Just decided I had to defend education, since most everyone here did not want to... I am not saying that it is necessary, an education is what it is, but to say that you cannot benefit from it? You would have to be insane.
I left my dayjob 2 years ago, but I've not made a cent from Google Adsense. They banned my account then reinstated it, but I'd already pulled their ads, and will have nothing to do with them.
I never even started with a job. I actually dropped out of college after the first 2 months, this is all I do atm. Might go to university in September 2006, but who knows.
