My day job left me 2 years ago. I was scared to death when the boss said our business was closeing. (Christmas time at that) I came home got steadily to work on the web business I had toyed with for awhile and made it work. Now it's getting close to my husband coming home from the work force aswell. It just takes TLC and work to make things happen. I believe in myself much more then the stability of a corprate job.

It's hard for me to leave my day job because it's easy and it makes me decent money for the workload I do. But I still hope for a big moonlight job as the web to compliment my earnings or maybe an early retirement.

Right on! I'm getting so sick from living in the West (the netherlands), I will move to Australia first and next to Japan or China, not sure where I will end up. The problem nowadays is that people here are soooo hard to satisfy. I just want a relaxed life, with enough money, not more then I need and to be satisfied with what I have.

I also wanted to become a millionaire all my life and now with stuff that happened I finally got it, too much money really makes people unhappy.

I wouldn't mind being self-sufficient, and I hate the idea of working for someone else (moreso the idea of making money for someone else), but I need the routine in order keep myself sane. So I'm pretty happy just doing my own thing on my own time.

Whoa! I can't believe I just read through this whole thread!

Well, just like everyone else on here, I'm building up to the point where I can leave my dayjob (where I'm currently a webmaster, designer, among other things). I've learned tremendously with my current job in the last 3 months as I had very little to no prior knowledge of what it took to build and maintain just ONE eccommerce website. But I've since become an expert in seo, webdesign, etc, etc. I currently have a side business that consists of troubleshooting, repairing, and selling computers, but my area is totally saturated with those types of businesses, so it's not a reliable source of income. I currently make $1280 a month doing what I do(I know, I know seriously underpaid, but the job came at a time when I REALLY needed it), so I am aiming for at least $2600 from adsense and other online sources of income so that I can sustain myself. I don't think I am going to leave the current job I have as I thoroughly enjoy it, even though sometimes it can be a pain in the butt. Though, it would be nice to have the backup income just in case :D. My goal is to have my own online business AND tangible business (as I would be crazy to depend on just an online business) in the next 12-18 months. I might have to move to a different state to accomplish that, but sometimes it's necessary to make drastic changes to achieve drastic results...

If you think you will have a relaxed, easy life in Australia, you are terribly mistaken :(
If you choose to live in a city anyway, you will be a slave to the bank forever. It's not paradise here (but better than japan or china).

I left my job 5 years ago. I had started my web site a couple of years before that and told my boss that if I ever started making as much money on the web site as I was making in salary, I would quit. He laughed (it'll never happen). He dropped his teeth the day I came into his office and reminded him of my promise -- and that the day had come.

Of course, Adsense wasn't around then but it now contributes about 25% of my total revenue. My total revenue is about four times my old job salary. I've never looked back.

After 40 years chasing the rats and losing, I decided on early retirement - between my pension, affiliate marketing and adsense, I'm doing about as well as before - and it seems to be getting better by the month plus I can finally forget that the clock has two 7:00's!

In may experience, the secret to good Adsense revenue is a themed site with lots of individual pages that are about the general site theme, but also different enough from each other so that each will display different Adsense ads. As visitors visit the pages of interest, they see different ads -- which increases the possibility that they will click on some of them.

On my site, there is one page that consistently gets the largest Adsense revenue, but it's the sum of ALL the pages that provides the revenue that has allowed me to leave the corporate rat-race forever.

for those who left the corporate rat race, does it bother you at all that most 'normal people' consider people who work at home to be losers and 'unemployed' ??

It seems like this is the attitude..

If you are at a dinner party and then someone pops the question to you "what do you do" and then the whole table is all quiet. Do you say with fear or pride that you earn your income online??

Never had that problem. Those that say that are likely just jealous. All I ever get from people is, "how can I do that?" Can you show me?

Hey if they feel comfortable making the money for the man forever then I'd say, Who's the loser?

When I recently went to my my High School reunion there of course were alot of those questions. I felt pride in telling what I do for a living. I can't worry about what those in the Rat Race think.
