this month I move towards the wonderful world of php and MySQL .. basically do everything myself, unfortunately I tried to run before I could walk which put a real heavy spoke into all my plans when trying to rely on others.

Lesson learnt. Now need to cover the basics of server maintenance to being able to install and maintain php scripts.

Then hopefully I can get back into the art of running again.

Specialise in portals and forums. I am now able to piggyback my work on the original portal to create quality links as well as rolling straight into the search engines.

Once you have one site to piggyback it makes things a great deal easier

    does your dawg bite

I do everything myself too. Need to train my 3 year old to help, I think. Maybe I should teach her to do the link exchanges. From some requests I've gotten, she'd probably do a better job. :D

I think a better question is for us DIY guys: Who would hire others to do some if you could??

I know I would, but we are still trying to recover from a couple of big hits. Things are looking better, but funds are still tooooo tight...

I have one little assistant. He's quickly becoming indispensable.

He's on vacation this week and I'm SWAMPED! :(

I agree with debunked. If I could afford it I would hire someone to take care of all the financials and dealing with clients. I HATE that part.

We do the design and SEO in house... and one other thing no one has (surprisingly) mentioned... TESTING! i.e. we alternate content (a/b testing) to see which versions are most effective at generating leads and boosting pageviews.

I do it all and it's damn time consuming. I focus on content rich sites and am giving serious thought to looking at 3-5 page sites.

Picking a topic that is popular and making it number one is by far the most rewarding of all!

I'm SO glad I found this thread... because now I feel NORMAL (heh  )

I've outsourced in the past, and even paid full-time on-site assistants when I was super busy with a particular project... but to be honest, my experience hasnt always been pleasant.

In the time it takes me to explain what I want done, educate them on how/why/where/what/etc, and then double check it once it IS done... I could have done it myself (and saved the money). That just doesnt make sense to me.

On the other hand, if you can really train someone well (to do things YOUR way) and *trust* them... you have a good situation. For example, I use the help of a close friend part time in the winter months to do article submissions & handle link exchanges (and minor site updates / light keyword research), which works out very well.

Still... the majority I do myself, and currently have 15 projects under way. I'm a big believer in Passive Income, but I dont use automated shortcuts for very much - - I'm more the type to build things from the ground up and set them up for long term.

Time consuming - yes. But this is my life... and I love it ;)

No, I hate all kinds of paperwork. Invoices, receipts, tax forms ... blegh. Now spending the money - that is no problem at all :)

I do it all, but prefer the business aspects.
Im not a programmer, and I muddle through while my blood pressure goes skyward.
I would love to have a PT programmer
