Most of my blog using wp free theme, some premium wp theme is too dumb for my blog. I believe this type of website can have the same opportunity to be successful site as long as you know how to market it.

I use free themes but I also tweak them so they look quite different from the other 1000 people who have downloaded the same one and to be honest I have found them just as good as the pemium ones I have tried.

I'm using a free theme on my blog, but I'm wanting to add a custom header to it and maybe tweak the colors a bit

I would say 50% of my blogs are free wordpress themes and the rest are customized.

I also use free themes with little tweaking and releasing free themes is one of the best method to build backlinks. If you release a quality theme then you'll definitely make many backlinks.

I use one, but it is extremely modified. Borderline pointless to keep the original authors info in my css file, but I do.

Good on ya; I can never get why people are so reluctant to retain an author's links. It's the least you can do

I have 3 blogs, all with Premium Paid Themes. I used free themes in the beginning....everyone does, so there is a huge market for it.

I do not agree that you can make a free theme as good as a paid theme, at least not with magazine style themes, but it depends on what your needs are.

There are a lot of quality free themes out there, but nothing that I was crazy about.
