Just curious how many of you are actually using free wordpress themes?

Is there a high demand for them if so we might launch a free wordpress theme site with 1000's of free themes.

With some tweaking, free themes can be made as good if not better than most premium themes.

More places to find good themes the better. Good luck with the project.

We use a free theme ourselves, and I absolutely love it. It took a little while to get one completely compatible with WP 2.5, but got there in the end (Url HERE)

The more free themes sites, the better - just ensure you clearly state what version each theme is for, to save people having problems.

    Good luck with the project.

Free themes are ok,but using Premium themes gives a better look to the blog,so i always prefer Premium themes.
And yes,its a good idea to start a new Free Wordpress themes,as almost 75% of people use Free themes only.

I'm using a free theme and am planning to switch over soon to another great new free theme. Most of the free themes look pretty much alike, and many do not work, so the tough part is finding one that does not look like the common formats. In my opinion, a site that features a few great looking free themes will do better than one that features hundreds of ordinary themes that look pretty much like the ones you can find on Wordpress.org and other theme sites.

I use free themes on all my blogs.

IMO, it takes some time, but one can always find free themes that are as good as any purchased ones.

Of all templates, Wordpress themes have the biggest market, but at the same time it is a competitive market.

I am really struggling with the free templates offered. Most, if not all I have downloaded do not work. I download and ftp correctly, but when using them on my wordpress blog, they look rubbish and don't function properly. Is this common? Do some themes just not work? Do I just have to keep looking until I find one that works?

Yes, a very large number of free themes do not work, either because they never worked, or have not kept up with the latest versions of the CMS. Usually, I work with the free themes that have been pretty well tested out and have good user feedback on their support website. If there is no support website, I do not use it.

I'm using a free theme; it looks very good and the readers love it.
But I don't think it's the best theme for monetizing a site.

At the moment I am looking for one with a similar look; but with sidebar space to add a 300x 250 or a 336x 280, and maybe another block like that to add a YouTube video

Thanks Rich and all the other people here who have replied. I thought it was just me, or something that I was doing. Its a real shame, so many of the themes look exceptional and appear very well designed, its so frustrating when I upload another and it looks nothing like the preview.

I guess I will just have to keep looking. Thanks again Rich and everyone.

I always use free themes. When I find a good one I edit and customize it to the way I think it should look. But I always use a free one as my base.
