Getting #1 rankings can be tough. My Free Links Direct website is ranked in the top 5 for almost all my keywords, and ranked number one for:

    Free Backlinks
    Free Back Links

    and #5 for:

    Free Links

I've gotten some really good placements over the last couple of years and have been getting some very good refferal traffic from social bookmarking. In fact, I just added a Social Bookmarking Directory eBook on my website. Since it's our 2 year anniversary, we're selling it for $2.02 this week only (along with all our EBooks). It's worth checking out. :)

I do with a search term which had $550- $850 suggested daily budget value according to Google Traffic Estimator 1-3 PPC spots ($25,500 monthly budget).. My visibility is better than them most of the time..+ More terms + on 93 search engines top3 positions.....btw My site has been there for a year :) I got some decent clients through that ranking....
btw that is one of my real estate client's site... I have other clients on Top3......

    Thanks

    Nice going guys,

We should set up a google first page club, LOL!!!

As there's obviously some talent in here, I have a little dilemma,

I have my main search term ranked 1 and 2 in google which of course i'm happy with.

Now thats on a 2 word search. On my second main search term (which is 4 words) I come up ranked 4th and 11th, which is fine... but the 4th is to my terms and conditions page lol! and my 11th to my homepage.

Now I accept you cant SEO every page for every search, but am I better of leaving the terms & conditions at 4th or changing it so it dosen't come up?

If I change my terms and conditions page to not come up, my 2nd search term would then be ranked 10th and therefore be on the first page of google.

Thing is my terms and conditions at 4th of course can easily re-direct customers to the home page, and whilst it's not ideal to have your terms and conditions coming up over other pages, it's a tough decision to 'remove' a number 4 listing on google!

At the moment im working on getting another page to come up above the terms and conditions, (then I can un optimize the terms & conditions) but of course SEO is a funny thing sometimes, and can be unpredictable.

Bit of a dilemma, what would you guys do?

    Ben

Noncompetitive keywords are easy to rank #1 for. So I only track keywords that, according to Wordtracker, receive at least 750 searches a month. In that category I currently have three keywords at #1 in Google, plus nine others at #2-#5.

Ben, just a wild guess ... but is it possible that you have lots of your pages internally linked to your terms and conditions page? If that is the case, then you are probably passing a lot of PR juice along to that page — which is obviously not your intent. Just a hunch.

    Good thought,

Yes I do, But I have 34 pages in total and every page links to every other page, I kind of like it that way as it makes ease of navigation simple.

Google must just love my terms and conditions! I was thinking of roboting it but im scared, what would you do?

Ahh, there's the problem. By linking all your pages to every other page, you are distributing the PR effect evenly to all your pages. That's why your home page did not stand out among the others ... and in fact ranked #11 behind your #4 terms and conditions page for the same keyword(s).

The solution? You can of course leave it that way, if you are determined to keep that navigation pattern for your site. But to get the home page more prominent, you'll want a new internal linking scheme — one that sends links from all pages to the home page, but links out from the home page only to the main pages, but not to all pages. That will tend to focus more PR on the home page and less on the routine, inner pages.

    Thanks for the advice Jim,

I might have to re-think the navigation pattern. I like the fact the navigation is very simple to use but I need to weigh it up against your good points. Also I have often wondered though (as we don't know all of google's algorithms) whether they like simple internal links and boost top slot rankings based on ease of navigation? I know I probably sound crazy.

I think im going to sleep on it and not make any hasty decisions,

Thanks for the feedback, some good food for thought,

    Ben

I am ranked #1 for a couple of terms but they are RARE terms so competition was not a problem.. for long-tailed terms.. several.

First of all there are not few but tons of website which remain top for years for many keywords. Secondly the practicle example is me my site is top since two years for seven keywords no competitor at all then also i am constantly increasing backlink and updating content for that page and keywords.

Use nofollow to stop some pages being indexed and receiving link juice. For example I use this to link to my privacy policy page:

    <A HREF="protectprivacy.shtml" rel="nofollow">
