How many of you agree hosting effects on SEO?

Being an experienced SEO and implementing everything there is on the onpage, we feel we are out of options to improve the speed of our website. After compressing images, minifying JS and CSS, applying a CDN, using browser cache and reducing the page size there is not much left to do.

Most of us overlook the use of a proper hosting service. Using a shared hosting is a big disadvantage as you will be sharing server resources with other websites. It is best to go with a hosting service that provides optimized servers, and these days cloud hosting is of reasonable cost.

So how many of you think that hosting effects heavily on SEO?

Hello! Of course that if the hosting is not of the best quality the site won't load fast enough and the optimization part is lost since the user loses his patience and leaves the site. So, yes, hosting affects SEO.

Hosting does have affect on SEO specially with load times and malware contents. If server has malware content, it will flag the websites hosted on it. The IP of server plays important role in Google "Choose Location" option in search results.

Good points, nice to see many agree on same points.

Hosting directly impacts the site loading speed, and lesser the loading speed higher the bounce rate will be and search engine bots will give lesser priority to our site in crawling, indexing and ranking.

I work with a company that provides Cloud hosting on top of DigitalOcean, AWS EC2 and Google Compute Engine, and we have clients that brag about how high their websites rank on PageSpeedInsights and WebPageTest.org results.

I think Cloud hosting will get into the mainstream and it is getting cheaper by the year. Having your own Cloud server in target region with dedicated IP will definitely give everyone an advantage over competitors.

Yes, hosting have a big effect on SEO..The Uptime and Downtime of the site is based on the hosting..when the downtime is high then search engine spider mark it as unreliable site, this in turns will reduce the rank of the site.

I do agree that hosting plays a role in the success of SEO, but doesn't it also come down to the person who's choosing the hosting? No host is perfect, but choosing the best host is a responsibility of the user hosting. If they choose a bad one, then they should leave it and research the next best thing. I also believe that having the best host is not everything if your server is not properly optimized, such as optimizing your GTmetrix scores to the full effect.

I believe you should always host your site, in the same country as the majority of your target audience or userbase.

The word cloud has quickly become just a buzz word, or advertising gimmick. For most people, the word "cloud" means nothing more then "online", so there are websites offering standard vps / shared hosting, promoting it as "in the cloud".

Dedicated IP for everyone would be great -> but you have to understand that most people want hosting per month for lower then what a dedicated IP per month costs. So for the average user, this is not a possibility. But it should be seen as a necessity for real business, e-commerce platforms, and possibly any site that is earning enough to justify the expense.

It does affect SEO - but it's not about the host provider's reputation, it's more about the speed of hosting and if you're on shared hosting, it's about what other sites are hosted on that IP address. So if there's lots of spammy sites on the IP, you're site is at risk of being lumped in with those lower quality sites. If you want proof of this, try using an abused free web host and you'll see if it's harder to rank on say a 000webhost hosting vs. a dedicated host.

It is important to have a good hosting company. If you are sharing a server with a mixture of different spam sites, and the server often crashes, you will see a negative impact on your rankings.

Is a very small piece of the puzzle. Get a decent host and don't worry about it.
