    It really depends what your talking about.

    To be acurate it's 1024, but most companies who make hard-drives work with it to be 1000.

    8 bits = 1 byte
    1024 bytes = 1 Kb
    1024 Kb = 1 Mb
    1024 Mb = 1 GB and so on.
