It's hard to say how many is enough. You may get dingle high PR link can can get pr4+ or some of high PR links but still got PR3. All depend on PR of the link that point to you and number of outbound link from that page. also about the relevance of the content too.

I wonder why so many people crave for PR, well in fact, they have lesser value than before...

How can you say that to have PR1 you have 100 backlinks? Where is your proof?

Hmmm.. Google's algorithm only know that... You can't say that you can have a PR like this and like that because you have a __ backlinks?

For me to gain high PR is to gain quality backlinks...:D At least more IBLs than OBLs...

Just put a link with an anchor text in other website and you'll be fine, but how important is PR to you now?

    Greetings,

I have a question about all of this.

    Check out the domain www.johnevons.com.

Somebody explain to me why my friend's website has PR3 and only has 3 backlinks according to www.domain-pop.com.

He said he did not purchase the domain either.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

    Hello again,

I forgot to mention that I read a pretty great article about pagerank here:

    http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/

According to this, if you know about your internal site structure, and how many backlinks you have (and the number of outgoing links on the referring page), you should be able to calculate it.

However, not everything can be known at a single time.. which is why it is such a hard calculation to do. But as the paper says you dont have to know them all.. because the numbers start to settle.

Let me know what you think.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

I started out as a PR4 site without any links. I have added links, lost links. My site has been a PR3 (pissed Google off) to a PR6 (major database project).

I still think that the internal site linking does more to create PR than all the link games.

But, 5 PR 5 links would be very nice.

    Interesting question.

In my industry, hardly any website ranks past a 3 to a 5.

One of the sites with the highest and most stable PR was a landscape designer whose site only had about 7 mediocre backlinks.

While a few others at it's PR or near, had 30 to 100 backlinks - which of course makes no sense.

Hence my Tower of Google article I've referred to in the past.
