Hello, I just recently started a web-site promoting a product (a few days ago as a matter of fact) and I was wondering how many links is "too many" for google. I've heard several varying opinions on this subject. My site is not even in the index yet..but im currently getting link building and article submissions done. Nothing too crazy probably under 1000 in total. I'm just concerned if this will get me sandboxed or not. Most of the content is original.
You say you're afraid of the "Sandbox", but I take it you don't yet rank for the desired phrase? If you have no rankings, then there's nothing to lose, or fear.
A link is basically a "vote of confidence". If a million sites give you a vote, then you can't help it if your site and content is that good. What is important however, is both the rate at which those votes come in and their nature over time. E.g. if you get loads of links one week then none the next week then it looks spammy. The key is to build up a good reputation consistently over time, give users top content, then the votes will come naturally!
You don't need to fear this.Check this site: http://www.addthis.com PR=9!! Check its backlinks from these: 1)http://www.backlinkwatch.com result:364,983 2)http://www.websiteoutlook.com result:210,625,874 0.2 billions!!! So what are you fearing?
there is no real numbers. it depends upon how big your site is and how quickly you are getting links ... that's it. if you have a tiny site and getting 1000 links in a week may create a problem. if you have a big site and even 10000 links in a week will not hurt. just my .02
from my experience, the more natural the better for Google. A new site needs to prove itself to Google at first.
If you vary your anchor text and surrounding text number of links wouldn't matter much for google. But 1000s of links with same anchor text and 0 link with some other anchor text surely signals spamming
Some people have problems with building links. It is becasue they do not read and respond in an appropriate, relative manner. posting things like" I got your post, it is good, I feel more academic now, I am fan, I will tell my grandmother how good your website is now" is not going to cut it.
well thing is that, many link increases your popularity. But putting too many links in a day or two can be treated as spam. things should look natural to search engines...
Yes, I totally agree with you . Don't be afraid of getting penalized before you have good ranking . Except for the inbound links, you can optimize your site from other aspects .
Thanks a lot for all your responses. I'll just have to experiment here and see who worked well with their backlinking service and who was "spammy" I don't have much money into this site anyway so it'll be worth the lesson if it doesn't work out. Thanks again everyone.
Offcourse, the more the better. You can build your links slow daily. Otherwise, you may be suspected as spamming.
It is not numbers that count for Page Rank. It is the quality of the links you get that matters. So try to get links from good authority sites. And for that your own site should first become an authority.
Get as many quality links as possible and don't worry. Only spamming could hurt a new site. Links from quality sites will never hurt
Ya that was what I'm concerned about with my "link building" people I hired. I guess I'll figure out whether I should use them again when I see the results. Oh well I guess you live and learn, maybe they will work out for the best, who knows. I think this domain is very promising though. My friend who has been in this business a few years tells me I would have to do a TON of links to face the wrath of google but I will find out, thank you for all the responses anymore input with specifics would be appreciated as I am always looking to learn something new.
I have been sandboxed by Google. I suspect it is because I have bought a few sig links on dp! Over the last two Google crawls they have added about 2000+ links and then one day about 7th November I drop off the first page for every keyword I was ranking with before, no traffic at all from Google since then even though the site is still indexed! :-( Any ideas how to get out of the sandbox? Should I go back and remove the links from signatures? Should I resubmit to Google?
How the heck did that site get a PR 9?? I can't say that I've even seen more than a handful of PR 9 sites out there. I understand those buttons are on many sites...but still.
