How Many Links is Bad for You Site?

    Hi guys,

I came across on DP a lot people offering dofollow, auto approved sites for link building opportunities... it is great but what if there are over 500 comments on that site already?

I am wondering when a link would have a negative impact on your site - is it when a page has 100 links and you are one of them?

Or is when a page has 500 links and you are one of them?

    Take a look at this:

    http://bytesizecss.com/blog/post/image-replacement-for-h1-logos-semantic-or-not

    Has 500+ comment links.

Is it even worth it to add a link on this site? This is a PR 4 page.

My question is not specifically for the above site. It is just an example. I love to hear your thoughts in general around this topic.

    Thanks,
    CM

Err, no. Google have said they stop counting links at a certain point (no exact figures but Matt Cutts did suggest a number of around 100). Regardless of that, how much juice do you think you'll get when it's shared with 500 other sites?

1/500 Juice is what I think a site would get!

Would that be on Matt's blog? Anyone has a URL?

I'm not sure if it's on his blog, I remember hearing him talking about it in a postcast a while back.

yeah, it was matt talking about it, he said to avoid ites were they have more then 100/150/200 links, these sites dont pass juice at all.

but no they are not bad for your site, else a competitor could get your links on such sites and let your serps drop.

I'd say no link is a truly bad link, you could still get a human visitor. It may not help but it won't hurt.

You are right. You can't go wrong with a link because if it is the case, competitors could mess you up... Either you get link juice or you don't. That is basically it.

matt cutts is correct google will stop counting backlinks but there is condition apply like new sites getting too much backlinks in short term then it will stop counting. If you are getting too much backlinks nofollow then it will stop counting and same with dofollow. If you are getting too much backlinks from High pagerank pages whether it is dofollow of no follow then it will continue its counting. So prefer to get backlinks from atleast pr 5

I think you should to make comment on a page with less than 100 outbound links. It's good.

Is this an assumption or did Matt Cutts actually said that if you get too many links in a short period then Google will stop counting?

Yes it is. That is why people are using it to spam with a lot of links. BUT the question is, is it worth anything?
