I suggest you look for 5 major keywords you want to target with high searches then target long tail keywords with those 5 keywords you gathered for the inner pages.

The approach would be what is your main keyword and what long tail keywords that fall under the main keyword would you be able to rank number one for. If you have a very competitive keyword, it may take awhile, if ever, to reach page one. But if you have long tail keywords with lower competition and build a page around each long tail keyword, you could have each page on your site rank number one for each long tail keyword. As a result, your site can dominate page 1 of google for various keywords and get steady traffic. Hope that makes sense.

i think it's important to have some backup keywords too, just incase yours is too competitive..or you never really know with G and they might rank your back up / main keywords or mix them up into something crazy

I came across of few tools where i can generate long tail keywords just not sure if it is good idea. I got already about 5-8 main keywords based on google adwords keyword tool and some competitive search.

I was also wondering what is the best way of bringing organic traffic from Google now days.

I guess you should at least 10 keywords for a single article. If you choose more than 10 then its good. You will be able to fight for google PR 1 and will of course win.

The importance of long tail keywords is best illustrated with actual logs... take a look at: http://netix.co/keywords.htm. Most important is the 'Proof of concept' paragraph and be sure to view 'Alleycode's April statistics'...

I would suggest that keywords be both short and long tailed and choose between 5 - 10 to concentrate on. Make sure that there is not too much competition for each word. Keyword selection is one of the most important parts of SEO.

5 keywords per page and its content is favorable. more than 5 keywords will make it spammy and not suggested as an seo point of view. though to put more then 5 keywords would not harm the rankings in google.

you may target 4-5 keywords per page, moreover you may also target more keywords if they are relevant to the same page and have you have enough content.

    Hi
I suggest 5 keyword per page but your choosing keywords is very important because very high search volume keyword take more time to index in search engines...you choose avarage search volume keyword is best...once you got keyword index in search engine then you target high search volume keywords

It is proper that the keywords rate stays about 8% and distribute well in your article.

select the keywords best suitable to ur site by using a good keyword research tool. check out what keywords web surfers mostly use while looking for ur product. if ur selected keywords have too much competition, then u will require some struggle to get to the first page of SERPs.

I am really surprised to see the answers that -7 keywords would be doing wonder. I feel it would be difficult to concentrate and rotate everything around these 5 keywords for the website to get established and grow naturally fast. I feel 25-50 key word would be good for the purpose.
