Hey. Here is a little Poll (have fun and help us novices at the same time ) What's the average, max and min number of keywords in your adgroups? cheers
Mine are: min 50 max 600 avg 150 what I try to learn with this poll is whether people tend to do less keywords in more adgroups or viceversa.
I read alot on the internet about keywords, some also say that 3 keywords are better? Whats your opinion about only 3 keywords??
^ the number of keywords depends on how big your campaign or program is. like, how big your targeted market and product can be. so, say 3... may be it's just a verry li'l enterprise working on targeted consumers and using targeted keywords. for big ones, i don't think 3 kws are enough.... that's a no-no.
Does Google care about your number of kws? I mean, is it good to get rid of all kws that do not generate any impression?
no, is not a problem - each keyword has its own quality score and do not has influence on other keyword. Actually, You should avoid deleting keywords from your campaigns - normally you delete keywords in two reasons (rare situations): - The keyword is inactive for search and it is not relevant for your campaign; - The keyword is performing bad (negative ROI) and you have already tried all possible techniques to make it positive (directing to a specific more relevant landing page, moving to a separate adgroup, lowering bid, non dynamic ad, etc..)
There is no real "maximum keywords" in my opinion. Depending on each campaign it differs and how much variety you want to have. Using more keywords doesn't really hurt your others so it's not such a bad thing. Campaigns that are saturated will need many keywords just to get visitors while others which are more niche may only need 10. Best to just try and test out what is best for you.
My groups usually vary between 2 and 30 keywords. I would tend to go with smaller groups rather than larger, depending on how similar your keywords are. Because each group has its own ad, I try to group my keywords into groups that are very similar so that that ad focuses specifically on those keywords. Especially because if the keyword is in the ad, it will be highlighted when the ad appears.
One of my friends have campaign (he advertise method of learning language) and he have min. 10 adgroups 1000 keywords each. I wrote about it before: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=142869 For me is not normal but... Do you see reasons for this proceed?
