I am new to google adwords and would like to know approximately how many keywords should I list for one campaign? Google says its better to have 20 or less keywords but I read somewhere that its good to have more than 200 keywords. I am confused. I would really appreciate if someone could clarify this.
Stick to 5-15 keywords, max 20 keywords within this are included broad,[exact] and "phrase" matching,i would also recommend you to use negative keywords like "free" if you are selling something that way you are not going to get no money crowd. Why 5-15 keywords? This way you can be sure that you have a high relevance,if you don't have high relevance google will penalize you with increasing your min. bid. But if you have 100 keywords for one campaign you can spread them into 20 ad groups it is better because you are going to get a lower bid price. Hope this help.
I like to start out with about 200-300. Wait 36 hours, see how each keyword is performing. And then I start moving the keywords around and deleting the useless keywords. Usually I go from 200-300; to 30-40 keywords.
If you use generic keywords, then you must use negative keywords. If your using long tail keywords, then usually negative keywords are not needed. A formal example is lets say your selling hair products. If you bid on "hair products"; then you will receive searches from people searching " free hair products", so what's going to happen now is that you'll be wasting clicks on people that are only looking for free products. So in this case, a negative keyword will be the keyword "free". So in your adwords campaign, you would add: -free
Thanks so you mean I gotta add the word free to my keyword list? But how does it become negative? Google might think I am giving something for free thats why I used the term "free". Do I need to place - sign or something?
How many really depends on your budget and how fast you want to go. Smaller budgets = less keywords Larger budgets = more keywords It's pretty simple. But never keep a keyword because you think the next click will allow you to break even on it. Just pause it and test more new ones instead.
Also please learn about tracking keywords before going ahead, if you dont i guarantee you will be wasting your money
20 keyword is enough for one campaign. 100 keywords for one campaign you can spread them into 20 ad groups it is better because you are going to get a lower bid price.
20 keywords are enough for any campaign because google by default consider them as broad match and covers nearly all search entries. e.g. like if you add "vista" as a keyword for a computer related campaign then adwords show your ad for all searches containing vista word like cheap vista windows vista vista for $300 buy vista online etc.
I work for a property management company, we just got into SEO about 6 months ago and are now looking into buying adwords. I have heard 2 different opinions on which search engine to buy the words on, google and yahoo. Does anyone have a preference and why?
Adwords has a higher volume of traffic, and also is generally viewed to have better quality than yahoo traffic.
