    How many keywords are ideal?

Someone told me you shouldnt have more then 8 or so words/phrases...... Being that I run a car forum, I have a bunch of cars that we cover -- lincoln mark vii, mark viii, town car, seville, deville, etc etc. its hard to be limited to 8 in my case..............

    SO this has me wondering

I just answered your other post, and I was just wondering where you were coming from.

Now I know - you need to read a lot more of this forum - do a search and find Compars list of things you should do to optimise your site. Check out Compars infopool on his site.

The keyword metas are not that important as far as google is concerned [in fact not a lot is at the moment as there is a growing consensus that Google is broken] - but they are important for the url, title and text [not in that order either]. So in order to "cover" the field you will need to have pages that emphasise each of your keywords with linking text that does the same as the title. OK? :)

you aren't limited overall. make new page after new page, and optimize each new page for specific keywords.

since most of my site is a forum, I havent figured out how to change keywords by page - the forum software (vbulletin) spreads KW's on every page.

One interesting thing I just noticed, is that the adsense ads on this page are the same ones on my car site...............

First - welcome - everybody is a newbie sometime - no problems

Second - to get around the problem of the forum spreading the header info all around you can establish an index page [html or php] which has the info you want and navigate to the forum. The header on the index page is not that with the forum. Other pages can be dealt with similarly. You can incorporate as many "modules" as you like in this manner all with different "themes" - for example a car sale "site" alongside the forum alongside a blog about cars alongside a spare parts....etc Remember people will come in on the forum, for example, and then go elsewhere so the navigation needs to sit on the forum [if that is what you want].

Third - adsense uses the info provided to determine what it displays - so if you have the same or similar "themes" it will display those same ads.

Actually I ahve found ways to get specific pages in with whatever KW I choose - but the majority of the site will have the same due to the forums.

You also have ot watch your keyword count if you are using "pop-away" ads. It can REALLY annoy your users if too many keywords are highlighted.
