2020, I don't think so. 2050 looks more probable. It will be a great power by 2020, though, if it's able to work out the great inequality between rich and poor, improve it's educational system and reduce government bureaucracy.

And on top of that work out the relationship with Pakistan and the various separatist movements. And let's not forget China.

    Good luck!

I have to ask as an American. What is good wage in India? What is the cost of living. What are it's major exports and to where? Is india getting well educated ... I believe it is. I believe many Americans are isolated form world events and are ignorant of what goes on in the world. Many Americans view India as a 3rd world country. I believe with the ammount of talent and cultural values most Indians uphold that yes it will be a world power possibly within my lifetime. Maybe even in the next 10-20 years.

I do believe India should strengthen it relationship with CHina to fully utilise the economic potential from the perspective of both countries. Can you imagine the possibilties of closer econimc integration - a bit like the EU. It seems that relations have improved markedly in recent years and there is a concerted effort on the part of both countries to keep doing so, which bodes well.

"A superpower is a state with the first rank in the international system ..."
there are no states any more, only companies. most borders are only some lines on a map and mostly meaningless in real life. a "superpower" is not who has controll over a large area/country (that was maybe 200 years ago), but who has controll over information.

Well, Please listen a few words from me.

Yes. India has alot of professionals. Yes, there are alot of rich peoples.

BUT, the gap between the rich and the poor is still very large. Look around you, how many people are still starving? The rich gets richer, the poor gets poorer.

And i think this phenomenon will not end by 2020.

Why didn't you just make the poll "Are you Indian?" You would have gotten the exact same results.

I hope everybody knows that Indian ranks No.1 in Corruption. We have around 30 - 40% population or even more below poverty line.

I cannt believe how can we think of becoming a superpower in real terms even in 2020.
