Not that long really, adding to directories takes no time at all, I put a section on my site that says "Link to Us", and I sometimes email people to do link exchanges.
We use several, most of them picked up off of this forum, do some searches for things like 'link building service' or 'directory submission service' or 'article writing' look for the threads with good feedback.
Strategy, proposals, client meetings, site analysis, reporting, campaign management, on-page SEO, email marketing amongst other things. Charging clients our rate for tasks such as link building and directory submission doesn't make sense when it can be outsourced for a 10th of the price.
Just yestoday I spent 5 hours submitting 1 general directory to other directories. I started the site about 6 months ago and lost interest a few weeks later. Then a few $10 featured link request, a google pagerank, and I found myself back into it again. This week I plan to use a directory submission service as soon as I know who's real and who's not. Hopefully, enormous amount I spent submitting this site will pay off.
I started about 10 sites a month ago, and I spend normally half an hour a say developing links with other sites and submitting to directories. neil
I think I should spend some more time with this. I used to spend some good hours a day with submitting few months ago, but now I have 12 sites that should be promoted and I just cross-promote them. I am too busy to submit, but I think I will start the "job" again ...
I probably spend around 10-15 minutes per day on link building. New sites will get more time allocated. It's a boring task. I did the outsourcing once as a test, but did not see much value coming from it. I think a paid directory submission service will never meet the quality you need. I have seen too many directories where I am having trouble finding the best category. I spend time to find the best matching category. A submission service will just submit. For them it only counts that the notifications make it to the customer. Christoph
we spend our whole working time submitting to various directories. We do it for other DP members. About 9-12 hours a day.
That's not a client site, it's personal, it was also put up on Saturday, I usually post new sites in my sig as they tend to get indexed much quicker. The second one is also new (check the cache) though it has backlinks from a pervious site on the domain.
I've been submitting my sites a ton to directories lately because it does seem to help pr a good amount. I'm using robotform so it doenst take me long at all to hit 25 submissions. If your site is new, then it's a great way to get it some links. If it's not new, then it's always good to have more links.
how do you use a robot form? does that automatically submit? i have been just copying and pasting my company blurb into the spaces and entering my contact info. the whole thing seems to take just a few mins.
Roboform fills in the forms automatically with pre-defined information. It saves hours if you've got lots of forms to fill in. Most browsers are starting to incorporate similar tools now.
