    Hi

How many minutes/hours a day do you spend looking for links or doing directory submissions for your site(s)?

    Cheers

In the early months of the website, I was spending lots of time submitting to directories. It was time well spent.

Nowadays, I find that by checking DP's "Solicitations and Announcements" forum, there will be typically a few new available directories every day. I submit to those. Over the course of a full year, that will get you perhaps 1,000 new links with very little time spent.

Do you pay someone to do it? ;)

Personally, i wasnt convinced by directories. So thought i'd spend a whole day submmiting to them to see what happends.

I submited to loads, like 500, paied someone to write 3 articles and submit them to 96 sites, i also added a google sitemap.

    Before subbmitting: 80 backlinks
    2 weeks after: 108
lol, ok, its not a lot :p but i do get an email every so often saying "your link has been excepted" -- so im thinking it will still go up more.

Whats really made me spend even more time submitting (which i have been for 2 hours today), is that before submitting i was getting $0.00 a day from adsense -- now i get $0.04-$0.30 (1/2clicks) ---- Again its low, but i've had my site since sept 05 with adsense, and made nothing. I submit to directories, and start getting clicks.

I think about an hour a day is good enough. (though i did more today)

I submited to another 146 directories today, i really belive its worth my time, as its the only thing i can put my sites "improvements" (lol) down to.

itsall: I always like positive thinking. I try to stick to it myself, but am not always able to do so...

Concerning dir submissions, I think it's better to pay for them to save time and use it on more productive things. But I spend some time every day searching for places to buy/exchange links.

I spend many hours a day on new sites and then after I get a good # of links I spend less.

Well, now I just submit a relevant ones a day. I think I spend more time looking for links than actually submitting them. Could take 1/2 the morning for it though.

That is the same as me. I spent the last three months submitting like crazy, now I just use the Solicitations and Announcements on this forum and others to add a few each day. Takes very little time.

As far as searching for sites to exchange links with, maybe an hour per week.

However, my site is a very part-time business. If I had more time, I would probably spend more time. :)

Personally I go in spurts. Maybe every other week I'll spend 4-5 hours slamming directories and looking for link exchanges.

I suggest directory submission, because it's both a short term and a long term chance to get links to your website.

But I have to admit that links coming from directories are useful for SEO purposes, not for traffic.

what places have you found worth of purchasing links? i purchased on newsisfree.com and i am not sure its helping at all. rather then placing my link on one or a few pages, it is on thousands of pages.

google could possibly read this as paid advertising.

anyone else have a similar experience?

It took me about 2-3 hours analyzing backlinks and submitting to directories. I write my own article so I save lots of money and then I just distribute my articles to my article submission lists. ;)

when you build links for google, all you need is 30 links per month from relevant sites. So it should take you 5 - 10 minutes per day. its really about the amount of days you spend building links as opposed to minutes or hours per day. too many link backs @ 1 time may be seen as spamming

i completely agrees that is the progress you make rather then the amount of time you spend, but i mean where did you get the number 30 links per month. did you make that up? is it what you have found from your own research?

i would think a number like this would depend on the industry you are in. my site is a competitive industry. i don't know if thirty links is enough or not but i don't understand where you got that number from?

I spent 0 hours doing directory submissions. I had a company do it for me for a reasonable fee :)

I had them submit to 300 dorectories for 3 of my sites. I got hundreds of emails for link approvals and I also got some for denials but thats ok, the ratio was good for approvals so I didnt complain considering the price I paid :)

    good luck!
