Hi, I am interested to just figure out how many hosting provides do exists do? Can anyone have statistics or where from such stats can be checked? Regards.
Well, the easiest way to make money online is - Sell your dirty video online or Write or affiliate wiard e-books and sell them on clickbank. - Providing hosting is the 2nd hardest job in the world online. The first one is invention something new on internet. Owh! Recent popular easiest job invented - Making a files hosting site, look like everyone wants to be KIMDOTCOM! LOL! Thanks.
There is not any centralize portal where such data is maintained. Anyone can start a web hosting company from their rooms, garage any where you just need access to internet, website and atleast a reseller account to start your hosting business. Many starts and vanish every day. It's not an easy job, people running hosting business knows it well.
There are so many hosting providers out there. If you don't add any restrictions, new hosting providers come and go. It is hard to count. But if you add restrictions such as: annual sales over $1,000,000, own its own data centers, over 50 employees, in business over 10 years, ..etc. Then you can have a stable count.
The question that should be asked is this: How many good web hosting companies are out there? Crappy hosting isn't worth the headaches.
Finally someone came back to topic. why everyone start talking out of the topic OP just asked for good hosting providers and everyone just start talking about crap hosters who start this business in summer holidays and runaway when holidays are over.
There's thousands coming out by the year and just die, stick to those with registered companies and have reviews to back there reputation
There is a formula you could try - where H = Host H = [http x 2] - ½ .com + [ d x url ] .................[ram + cpu] - ping It should give you as accurate an answer as anyone else! [lol]
At one time, years ago... there was a Industry Trade Magazine called "Broadwatch", published and edited by Jack Rickard. It used to contain an accurate count of the number of ISP's and later WISPs. Back in those days the numbers made it to around 7,999 or so. That is until the dot com boom and eventually competition from cable, ILEC, CLEC and RBOCs came into the fray. That number today is in the hundreds now. While there are probably an infinite number of "web hosting providers" out there, the bulk are resellers and or start ups. The reality is they likely number in the "hundreds" as well. There are a handful of major players and a larger handful of those of us that have been there almost from the beginning. In the end, I think I would be very surprised if that number were above 1000 if you took into account market share amongst those providers as a percentage.
There are literally 10's of thousands due to the high amount of pop up reseller hosts. Most of them die out within 6-12 months but another takes their place.
The other thing that makes is hard to calculate is that many startup hosting companies aren't selling space on their own servers. A lot of them resell server space they have purchased from other providers.
May be registered companies can be known with in country registrations. But an exact number is difficult
There are over tens of thousands of hosts, a lot of them being kiddie / fly-by-night hosts. There are quite a bit of good ones though!
