How many hosting account do you have?

I am getting more and more domains/sites and I'm not sure if it is clever to stay at only one hosting company.(what if the delete my account for whatever reason or maybe the financial crisis makes them close their doors :D).

I have currently about 15 sites (not that much) at lunarpages.

Do you have several paid hosting account? Is it good to have more than one?

Simple answer is keep your domains at say Godadd and make regular backups of your data.

If the host vanishes then you create new accounts at a new host, update the domains nameserver records for the new host and restore your backups.

You will have downtime but only for a couple of days at worst and the backups ensure you don't loose anything apart from changes since the last backup.

Apart from that if you're happy with the host you may as well stick with them.

I got a shared hosting package with HostMonster with about 100 websites on it. I have the exact mirror of all files on a shared hosting with 1and1 so if sh*t hits the fan I do not need to upload everything again, I just change the DNS for the domains. I also keep a back up copy on my hard drive but I have not had to use it so far. Good luck.

At one point I had 14 sites on my shared lunarpages plan and did not experience any issues. But I decided to purchase another hosting account and put 5 of the sites on there and will add more sites through this year to all of my hosting accounts. I figured it would be helpful to have some unique IPs and test the waters elsewhere. I have 4 different hosting plans now and feel that I should be all set for a long while. I keep backups on my computer and burn dvds every so often of everything.

I have 3 hosting accounts :D One shared proxy hosting with TMZ, One shared hosting with Mellowhost and One Baby plan with Hostgator :)

If you're in proxy business I recommend you to have a multiple hosting account ..

I host almost all my sites with HostGator and couldn't be more happier. I think there is no problem in hosting all sites on one host if you do the backup yourself regularly.

I love Hostgator and I have 500+ active sites hosted with them on various plans. Even though HG and most hosts will backup your data once a week you should still A) Backup your sites more often than once a week and B) Backup your data to a different server than your hosts because if your host screws something up then both your original data and your backup data will be lost.

Check out http://www.Backupalicious.com if you have a cPanel hosting plan because you can do automatic website backups to Amazon S3 starting at just $7/month (the link in my sig is not an affiliate link but there is also a 25% commission for life on all plans if you sign up for the affiliate program too).
