I could generate 73 hops per order in clickbank but no sales for these.
How many hops per order you usualy have to get your sales?

It varies greatly... depending on your niche, how well you pre-sell your product, how good the sales letter is etc.

I've promoted products with better conversion ratios than 1:50 hops whilst others have been in the hundreds before I see sales.

Agreed . The sales letter , usually does all your talking for you .
Email is a great way to warm up someone to your product .
It depends on a number more of things that can make a difference .

    Whats your site url ?

It depends on many factors. Some products can give you sale in 30 hops while others give you after several hundreds hops.

Here's my tip to promote good product with high conversion: ask yourself if you would buy the product if you were interested.

traffic from product name related keywords (product x review) - 1 in 10 or 20 (depending on your review + bonuses)
traffic from introductory terms - 1 in 100, 200 or more.
