though these is a agreed opinion that <h1> tags should only be used once in a page, whats ur opinion abot h2 tag. i bought a theme it as smthng like 10 h2 tags is that alright or i am doomed for seo
You're never doomed for SEO. Lots of people state set rules, e.g. you must have 1 H1 tag 3 h2 tags 5 h3 tags Between 900 and 923 words per page keyword density of 5.63% 234 more backlinks than your competitor link to 13 external sources do not buy backlinks do not link exchange do three way link You cannot base SEO on exact rules. You could alo modify teh template. I'd use it with the H2's and see how you get on.
when u 13 external sources... u mean per page right... as far as buying liks is concerned,, i think there is no way one google can find that if u do it carefully.. buying and selling links section on this forum is the busiest section.. moreover who pay 50$ for a backlink usually have a great content to back them up. I am sorry i wont agree on that
I have several sites that rank in the top 5 that have in excess of 6 H2 tags. One site that is on the top 10 that has 10+. So I have not had a problem with it at all.
There is nothing wrong with using several h2 tag, that is what they are there for...just do'nt be a keyword stuffing spammer, write your content to be read by people & you will be ok.....
Don't use too many Headings in a page because the have larger texts than any other texts. Use two to three h2 tags in a page.
100% agreed. Do not think of Hx tags as a tasty bone for your lovely doggy Google. Think of it as a way to structurize a page to make it more readable and understandable by your human visitors in the first hand. Write the main idea of the document in one short phrase and put it to H1. Separate the entire text into several semanticaly complete parts and entitle each one with H2 so that the header would clearly decribe what that part is about in one phrase. Use sub-headers H3 if necessary.
I think that you need to think more about usability and people who will read your text on the site. If the whole text will be bold and <h2 - you'll get terrible bounce rate.
You must have to use h2 tags according the website content need. Be careful from over stuffing the h2 tags within the content of the web pages.
Use H2 only once like H1, and H3 3-4 times. Make each heading tag unique from the rest of the headings. Optimize the page for 3 to 5 keywords / keyword phrases.
I it's depends on your web page what is structure of your page in normal way i suggest you use 2-3 time in a page
The six heading element, h1 through h6, denote section heading... <h1> website design basic</h1> <p>text</p> <h2>html<h2> <p> here is some text</h2> <h2>CSS<h2> <p>text</p>
As previous posters have said... there are no set rules in this regard. However, as a general rule, I would stick to a single <h1> and no more than 2-6 <h2>s depending on how you're using them and how the content of the page is structured. If you have a blog post that has the title of the post as the <h1> and the post can be logically divided into 5 distinct subtopics, then use 5 <h2>s. Don't just use them because you can and you think they add SEO value. Use them as they were meant to be used... to structure or outline the content of the page.
We have sites were we've used many H2's and some without any. I don't think it makes that big of a difference. H1's are definitely more important in this case.
There's no limit. On a side note, headings hardly have an impact on SEO anymore. There was a study done about this on SEOMoz.
