There is some debate going on right now about people who got PR0 on their websites. Some are saying it is a penalty, but from what I can tell there are people who went to PR0 and didn't do anything wrong. How many people here did get a PR0, and how many think they didn't deserve it (never sold text links, etc)? -Michael
Kinda tough to answer that because anyone that lost PR is gonna think it's unfair. Chances are out of all the replies you get there will be a breach in Google's Nazi guidelines I bet they can all be found. H
Thisisouryear.com got a PR0, I don't know if they did anything wrong but it seems strange to me, their rankings are doing better then ever and they just got them little site link jobs.
Well, the thing is this is rumored to be a very specific breach, selling PageRank, not hidden text or keyword stuffing or anything else. The theory is that they did this to hinder the text link business. Problem is, a bunch of new pages all went from gray to white at the same time, which makes this look more to me like a new snapshot rather than a penalty specific issue. We've seen pages go PR0 just before an update in the past. I was just looking to get a larger sample of data. -Michael
Me thinks it might be short sited to think that this update would only include specifics. There was a good reason why a complete PR update was missed for the first time in history. You are knowledgeable in SEO take a close look. For example I have one site that got beat up and battered a while ago from PR6 > PR0. After a close look there was a ton of content that has been written when excessive keyword use was a good thing. It's not anymore. FIXED There are many other possibilities that also may not be on your site. Hard to say. H
Just to clarify, my site wasn't hit. Mine is under a whole different penalty atm (the -950 one). I am looking more to gather information from people's whose sites were hit to see if there are any patterns, or if this might be more like the PageRank correction gig that happened back in March 2006. -Michael
sorry for going a little off topic, but what is the -950 penalty? How long do penalties last? Hope it not 950 days
No, doesn't have to do with the length of the penalty. According to Matt Cutts it's triggered by over-optimization. It pretty much means that for whatever you would rank for, you will find yourself on the last page of the serps if you set your preferences to 100 serps/page. -Michael
TLA and PPP on blogs etc seems to be a major cause this time round, from reading the various threads here recently. So I sure agree 100% with this ^^ I think this would have been caught algo change or not, funny post though
See, that's the problem. That's all rumor and speculation that is going around, something that happens all too often in this industry. What I am trying to gtaher here are some hard facts. Let's start by this... how many people here had: 1) Their PageRanks drop last round 2) Their PageRanks go to 0 this round, or 3) Both -Michael
Just to clarify my post - I said it was based on my observations of reading threads here, where site owners have had recent PR reduction/zeroed - and the site owner has themselves confirmed that TLA/PPP was likely an/the issue. So I thought it was valid
Both here. Went from 5 ->2 first time, then 0 the second time on one site. And yes, I use TLA. Hope this helps your study.
If you hit Google for ["950 penalty"] you will see plenty of results: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q="950+penalty" In this video is where Matt makes allusion to the fact that it has something to do with over optimization: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4814548594071648913#1m42s Starting at 1 minute 42 seconds, talking about the penalties, this is what he said: Yes, but we need more examples. Did anyone else get hit by this? Or know of sites that did? I know of plenty of sites that are selling TLA's that did not get hit, but unfortunately that doesn't tell us much. -Michael
I got a PR 0 for a site that should of been PR 4/ PR 6, however i do sell text links from that site, i'm not bothered SE rankings are great & traffic is going through the roof & yes i will continue to sell text links.
Ok - here is an example of a thread where a site owner is claiming their totally "white hat" blog has been hit. On inspection that blog was clearly the antithesis of white hat. So there is an example of some bleating they have been hit unfairly - which muddies the waters for those who believed the white hat bit Is that the sort of example you are looking for?
