When searching for competition for keywords how many google page results is just too much competition??
Hi andyem It all depends you could have a search result of over 20 million sites but for that keyword nobody is targeting it on the other hand you could have a search result of 1 million sites and over 500000 sites are targeting it. It all depends on the phrase and the amount of competition and the amount of people searching for that phrase. Pete
I have phrases which return less then 500K but are searched over 200-300 times daily. Im just wondering with at least 5-10K searches a month what number do niche targeter's say thats too much, I'll move on to the next phrase or keyword.
Do a search in google with this intitle:keyword if you have more keywords do it like this intitle:keyword1 intitle:keyword2 What it will return are sites with those keywords in the title. You may asume that if someone is targeting a keyword at least they will put the keywords in the title. Of course it's not exact sience but it will give you a better idea of how much competition you will have
Well, generally, if a keyword or combination of keywords turns up only a limited amount of actually relevant pages (say only the top 10 or 20) - you've got a niche on your hands that would be relatively easy to target. Sometimes one stubles on a subject where even the top 10 doesn't have pages that will help people much. In that case it's there for the picking. I don't do automatic searches like a previous poster suggested. I do jump in on subjects when I notice through a search that nobody else seems in the game for them. To know for sure I actually read the pages that come up in the top 10. Some subjects are so lightly SEO'd that even though there are relevant pages, google doesn't put them in the top 10! These are (obviously) not the types of subjects that are most highly monetized. At least the ones I know about. To find the subjects - that's the tricky part. Seeing that the top 10 or 20 is empty of relevant content, that's easy.
