    I know someone who ran into the 5000 friend limit, so I can confirm that it exists, or at least that it did exist as of last year.

    What is so special about the number ? If you are working for some online marketing company, you will obviously have more friends, however you cannot exceed more than 5000. The ones who are not in the marketing business will certainly have less friends, because they are using it for fun :p
