How many DP members actually read a thread before replying?

Have you noticed how often members post a reply to a thread without ever having read or understood what had been posted? They will even ask a question that has already been answered.

It is funny, and I am sure that anyone who spends much time here has seen it over and over.

It reminds of one of my college mid-term exams. The professor stressed how important it was to read the full instructions at the top of the test. In those instructions there was a line that said "the answers to the first 4 questions is "d"." Would you believe that ten people got those answers wrong? Those first 4 questions were nearly impossible to answer the way they were worded. I though ti was hilarious and that will probably be the one thing I remember from that class when I am an old man.

I suppose people are basically the same everywhere - they dont read - or even listen - before they reply or respond.

yes many self centered posts. They only read the OP's post and ignore everyone else and no one qoutes anyone after a certain amount of pages usually and you end up no conversation just post after post of self centered dialog.

Also terrible spelling I'm noticing. For example many people are spelling 'your' as "yo"
    ex. where is yo site?
    or
    ex. where is you site

Maybe its because the thread title itself only requires the user to reply at the first post. for example "What is your favorite food" then most of the user will scroll down and quick reply, for they have thought the answer already, and some are reading the whole post but mostly they answer quickly.

I always read the OP post (or most of it at least...), replies, it depends what the topic is about and/or how long the thread is.

I'd assume that a lot of people just want to get stuck into things without reading. As you said, the same everywhere.

I also read the OP's posts, but I don't read the last reply before I post something.

What? uhhhh... Did you read the first post?

Another thing I see a lot is repeat posts. People will post a reply asking exactly the same thing that somoene else has already asked - often the question has already been answered.

OR an auction or offer ends, but people keep posting 'pm me with details' or 'I am in" etc etc

Replying without reading the OP is simply stupid.

As for replying without reading the rest of the posts, that depends on the length of the topic, my time, my level of interest in the subject, and whether I think my post is dependant on what anyone has posted before me.

I usually at least scan through the topic and try to get an idea of what other people have posted.

I noticed that someone had mentioned that spelling is poor in some posts. One reason might be that IE doesnt have a resident spell checker. Right now I'm using the Google Toolbar. It's got the best IE spellchecker I've found.

To answer the title question I would be willing to bet that 100% of forum posters have replied to a thread with out reading it all. Some threads don't really require you to read more than the op or even the title for that matter.

But I do get what you are saying. I have been here only a very short time and I have seen some pretty funny stuff.

I had a similar test too. Except in the one I had the teacher stressed to read over the whole test before beginning. Then the last question on the test was something like "The only question that needs to be answered on this test is your name."

    Check the signature threads.

Many a time, the OP will put in a post saying that he doesn't want any more offers...yet people continue to bombard him/her.

I often read the whole thread or the first page before I reply. I reply when I get the thread. I don't reply when I have no idea whats the thread about.

Generally I do, But it really does depend on the length of the thread and the usefulness of the information contained within the thread. I don't really think it can be compared to the professor analogy.A lot of the information in threads is.. useless!

I always read them but sometimes I am up late and my brain does not always comprehend what I see. :D

It is frustrating to start a thread about something and have it end up a discussion totally different than what was started. It is the same problem at all the forums though.
