I am curious if I can really host unlimited domains on my hosting account?

Currently I have around 15-17 domains.:)

As far as i know even the unlimited accounts have a limit if you have huge amount on traffic.

I have typically 50+ moderate traffic site on unlimited traffic accounts. My accounts have got suspended once in a while, when the site got at front page of reddit

Basically as long as your site doesn't get huge traffic / does not extract too much of resources (including database), you nay have huge number of domains. But the moment your site start receiving good traffic in short period of time, they will suspend your account. That is my observation with 1and1, ixwebhosting and powweb

I have 6 domains on one hosting account. I think it is better to have sites in different hosting account. When you have all domains on one account and hosting provider have a downtime - all your sites are dead.

That's really a question for your host. It also depends on how overloaded their server is and what hosting software and OS they're running.

I heared that hostgator and bluehost will suspend your account if you receive too much traffic. I also heared that lunarpages is only sending you an email. I am using lunarpages and I have never got any problems with them.

My friend had lots of traffic and he received an email but they hadn't suspended his account.

Usually adding domain to a hosting account is no problem, the prob is when they are all high traffic and the host is an overseller ;)

Yup, those and many other hosts promise high numbers but oversell their servers to get those low monthly numbers to work. If you get a client that starts to actually use those numbers, many of those hosts will try to get rid of the client.

    Reference links purely at random:

    http://whreviews.com/overselling-hosting.htm
    http://www.webmaster-source.com/2007/09/23/overselling-web-hosts-little-secret/

I oversell slightly on the webspace but we do also monitor our servers quite closely and don't overload them.

That's ridiculous. The number of domains has nothing to do with anything. I have servers with thousands of domains, and servers that can't even handle one domain on their own. It all depends on the traffic and resources used.

Yea it matters their traffic. You could put 1000 on it especially if they were all redirects(which they prob would be if you managed them all).
