Hi Guys, I recently started a blog early last month. I was wondering approximately how many good backlinks does it take to get a PR of lets say 2. Right now my blog has a pagerank of 0. I only have like 500 backlinks according to googles external links section in webmaster tools. I am just wondering what kind of numbers others had to get a page ranking of at least 2?
Wow, that's a lot of back-links for SEO. What is the name of your blog? Also, there is no real correlation between back links and PR. I write an article about that which shows a breakdown. Some sites have very few back links with a PR of 5 and some have a thousand back-links with a PR of only 3. And they both get a lot of traffic. Remember, the PR is what Google sees as "important". Roll over the PR on the Google toolbar and it will say, "...importance..." Your back-links may be too weak to get real PR status. Also, PR takes time. My advice is 1) be patient and 2) get quality links. If you have 500 back links in a month, Google with not see that in good favor, unless you are an offshoot a huge company like IBM.
500 external links in a month is a lot? I really do not spam or try to get links, I just post a lot on forums that have my link in the signature. I also post articles and things like that. My website is http://getonlinecashflow.com
PR doesn't really matter unless you're planning on selling links. You definetely have to be patient if you want to see it bump up though like SiteBetter said, google's shown pagerank updates are rare. And they're already outdated by the time they give them to us grr
