Just wondering how many days are they taking to approve our website. Any one who got listed please share your tips. David
Boilerplate answer: Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one. Do not be tempted to suggest your website to several categories unless you are willing to be declared a spammer and treated accordingly.
As jimnoble has pointed out, DMOZ is not a listing service, but fortunately there are many other directories which offer this service. You will find plenty of them here : http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/ Hundreds of sites are added to the ODP every day without even being suggested by their owners, so there is nothing at all you need to do other than make your site the best you can.
Hi, I also want tips for getting listing from DMOZ. I have try few times but couldn't get succeed in it. If any one have any tips plz share with us....
Ensure your site is unique content, we are not interested in page rank etc, just unique material. Pick the most appropriate category. If you choose the wrong one then that may delay it being reviewed and listed, one editor may well have to send it to another. Don't look for a category with a named editor, all categories have editors, some editors can work anywhere, offering to the wrong category for any reason is likely to delay it being dealt with. Dont offer to more than one category, that's how spammers are born, unless you offer once to a topical category and if your site has a base, a shop or some such, once to regional category where it is located, that is perfectly OK. Title it with the company name or the title on site, don't try and stuff with key words. Also look at the descriptions in the category you are offering to, that should, but not always, give you a clue as to how to describe the site. But dont worry too much about getting titles and descriptions right all editors are used to correcting these. But trying to get it right will make you stand out in a long list where the other sites are full of hype and key words. I have often only had a few minutes to spare so I have quickly glanced at the suggestions list and picked one out that looked like it did not need much work, also suggests the site might be OK too. That's pretty much it, trouble is it can then be from a few days to a few weeks to a few years before it gets reviewed. There is now nothing more that you can do, so go and promote your site elsewhere, well unless you want to join this mad band of editors who spend hours of their time trying to build the largest human edited directory and often get abused by non-editors and ex-editors on sites like this. But there is no problem in listing your own site, just don't show it preference, list the competition too. Want to join, well that's another thread for tips, but there is a button on most pages inviting people to join us.......hit it!
My site is more than 4 years old.. I am sure site meets all requirements and I follow all guidelines. I am tired to wait when it going to be listed I don't even see somebody from DMOZ have visited my site.
If u use Blogger/blogspot then it will take a week for Dmoz to enlist u. And if u want to get listed for ur site hosted elsewhere its really tough to say how long. You can try commenting on PR6 site.
It constantly amazes me how people manage to open a thread and post in it without even reading the very small number of posts immediately above. Perhaps I need to post this answer several times a day in order for it to be seen? Here it is again:
