Google used to give you the number of unused channels you have left (Yahoo still does). So, how do I tell how many channels I have left? Is there a way to tell (without counting)? Is the total still 200? Thank you for any replies.
Click on "+ Add new custom/URL channels", and you will see "Total URL and Custom Channels remaining: ...". Yes, unfortunately only 200 active channels. Many publishers would need a lot more for an efficient work, especially URL channels. For example, Chitika (eMiniMalls) has a reasonable limit of 1000 channels per account.
Do you need more than 200 channels??? I only use one channel per website that I own. I think 200 channels is more than a publisher would ever need.
Juan G, Thank you, thank you - works great! I have 7 channels left! I need 50 more from G, and 50 more from Y, in the next two months. I use one channel for each page, so I can track individual performance. The performance of each channel is critical for me. Poorly performing channels MUST be removed from G, to maintain overall double-digit CTR. CTR is a big factor in EPC. I don't do this stuff all day long, to wonder how I am doing. If I have a choice of channel or no channel, I go with whoever gives me another channel, be it YPN, G or whoever. Thank you for the Chitika clue - I must look at them again! You may think I'm nuts, but the feedback is more important to me than whatever the performance is. If I don't know, I am operating in the dark. Some pages start poorly, and then suddenly surprise you with increased traffic. And vice-versa. I must know where to spend my time. So, I will rotate channels in and out, to get the feedback. It may be a royal pain, but I HAVE TO KNOW. As soon as you group two or more together, you have no idea what is going on. I am very grateful that you can have an unlimited number of inactive channels (I think). AdSense, YPN, please give me more channels. Thank you.
This recalls the well-known quote from the MS-DOS age, "Nobody will ever need more than 640k RAM", or "640k ought to be enough for anybody" (wrongly attributed to Bill Gates, 1981). For example, apart from other tasks, just for tracking performance and user response for the most used pages (carefully handmade pages, by the way), I need much more than 200 URL channels. Users are first, and we need to be aware of what they are interested in, what we need to reduce, what we need to increase, etc., etc. See what Surf_Dude does. It's a good practice. However, if you experiment removing ads from low performing pages, I think it is more accurate to look at very low eCPM, rather than low CTR (at least for the pages with most activity).
Pity me, I don't even know how to use channel.... >_< I have 199 unused. That 1 used, is just created, but not sure what is for.... haha
