Don't think for a second that Microsoft is not serious about smartphone. Company has tried very hard to penetrate in the market but failed miserably. There is no excuse for that. But yes I agree with one point that Microsoft is very determined company. Despite facing defeats in Zune, Bing and Smartphone market they haven't given up on that. Microsoft is still trying hard to make a mark, its incredible because any other company would have given up by now.

I don't think IE can be considered as success story because MS used monopoly to win over the market. Apart from Windows, Office and Xbox, Microsoft is doing good if not great in Server business especially after reducing cost production. MS is also doing good in Cloud as well. Of course not as dominant as they are in Windows and Office but still MS is doing well.

    .

a well known european cellphone network provider already sells this Christmas an Android smartphone at only 99 euro (about $130) with a prepaid SIM or give it FREE if you subscribe a ZERO euro per month plan for at least 24 months!

well, WHAT future may (really) have the 3, 4, 5 or more expensive WM7 phones with this kind of competition from VERY LOW COST from hundreds models of Android phones???

LG, the maker of Windows phones, yesterday said they were disappointed in sales and it was far less than they anticipated. WP7=FAIL.

While Android will pass iOS this year, probably, "killing" it is hardly the right word.
