Hi fellow webmasters, I needed your opinion before setting up a blog on .us TLD . My servers are in US , and traffic i need is from the US. All the domains except .info and .us is left for me to purchase. I am from india , and i have hardly seen any .us site in the top 10 of my google page [ie .co.in] for any query. I want to askt that is it possible to land in the top ten position for a keyword contained in the domain name with a .us extension. All i know is .info domains dont reach top 10 easily . thanks
if all the other Top level domains are sold then the chances are that your niche is all locked up...meaning the owners of those purchased sites have a great head start on you and you will not be able to take them down! Sorry....but try to add a hyphen or some other variation of the domain name. Whats the domain you want and Ill look for an available .com one.
Thanks for your reply , All the domains are purchased by godaddy to sell in their aution for few thousand $'s . I dont think they will be up any soon , so i dont fear competition with those domain names. No what are my chances with a .us domain
I think you would be fine with .US for traffic from United States. Many .ca sites rank on Google.ca and similar in other countries. *edit I missed the "In India" part. You may have some difficulty there.
thanks for your reply. Thats encouraging . One more question i have. I have chosen just the reverse of a domain[keyword] , say its keywordelite.com and i got elitekeyword.us . Will google see this as spam , even if i produce unique content. The first domain is already ranked 1 , will this affect my ranking. I am on shared hosting
hi , i have purchased the .us domain , but there were three types of declaration out of which i choose "Foreign National with business in US" . I dont remember the exact words , and i was not given WHOIS Privacy either . I think these are the only restrictions there .
I would say the .US domain may work but then again I have never seen one rank. You could reverse the keywords but I would only do this if there is exact match search traffic. Again what is the domain you want. Just tell us and we can help. and there are variations on the one that have already sold I'm sure of it!
thats great , encouraging . but that .org topped you . . However in my domain , there is no .org active till now .. i hope to rank well then. Thanks . But i need this top 1 position , becuase it is what that gets the most traffic. even position 2 gets less than 50% of No 1
if there is a .com version already exists, well optimized and ranked for the very same thing, you have no chance. If .com is optimized for something else or if there is no website (parked), you can go with .us as far as you want.
Yes, .com is still outweighing .us for english sites - as far as I can tell. But since there are less of .us it is just speculation. IE: The have the same weight.
I think i have done the right decision by going for the .us domain. All the top 3 tld's are taken by Godaddy [the domain pimp :X] , so i have this left . I am building links , lets see , where i get in a weeks time . My .org domain for the same keyword [reversed] , reached position 1 in 12 - 15 days , with proper seo and link building . Trying the same thing on this one . Just that i am not sure how Google will take it , since i heard having multiple domains on same niche is like SPAMMING to them
